If only. It's 'HOT Rats' that upsets her. As soon as 'Peaches en Regalia' starts up, out comes the water pistol. If I could find a good copy, I'd like to try her with 'Jumbo Go Away', see how she likes that

It has to be accepted that having pets could lead to damaged property and I do concede that allowing my cat to lay on my hifi is a risk but I have taken precautions such as using an old lid and not leaving potential ' toys ' for her to get any ideas about.
That being said the company and affection I get from her is very welcome as being pretty much housebound these days I don't get to see too many people. She doesn't rule the home but I give her as comfortable a life as I can and yes I do let her do things she really shouldn't.
One last thing I do take some offence at the suggestion owning a pet equals living in a shithole and not caring about it. My home isn't some sterile, charcterless shrine to good taste but I like it and so does the cat

I work hard for my money and I dont want things damaged by pets. I think you let your pets take over and youve given up on the cosmetics of your home. Tiddles has taken over and its not finding the least damaging way to get on that speaker

Its not so much ocd as not wanting things damaged to hell when it can be easily avoided

Well said Ian, I agree 100%.

By the way, your 'shithole' looks very nice (ooh, that sounded a bit pervy), and the weeble mouse on the floor adds a nice homely touch.

I can see where you're coming from Martin, we would all like the things we invest so much time and money in to stay pristine, but for most of us our pets' happiness and well-being trumps even that. Almost all of us I would say can report no problems, although there will be the odd exception. Up to now I've been lucky, touch wood...shit where's that bloody scratch come from, wasn't there yesterday...

I think Im getting a battering here from pet owners. Im not suggesting that anybody lives in a shithole and Im just interested where pets fit in to buying and keeping things nice.

I understand a pet gives a lot of pleasure and material things are just stuff. Maybe I am OCD about stuff. (I am) but i just find it interesting and distressing at the same time to see a cat on top of the turntable cover. Last time I looked they werent rated for the weight of a fully grown cat.

I have just bought two perspex covers and I know the cost and how they need to be treated

You can see it from my point of view that if you shell out for a nice turntable and the cat uses it as a bed..whats the point in keeping anything cosmetically nice so that would be quite a trade off for me.

Yes things get damaged and maybe its about being more laid back about it. Its a question of priorities and if your pet comes first thats fine. Im not going to totally back down though because my priority is not letting cats or dogs sit on top of my equipment.

Yes I managed to damage my own speakers and I was gutted. That why I took a renewed interest in how others treat their equipment and deal with damage...some of you dont care do you Only joking

Martin, I take on board what you are saying and applaud anyone for wanting to own and keep nice things, high standards are to be admired. I wouldn't dream of letting my cat anywhere near my hifi, turntable especially if there was a danger of her breaking it. She weighs just under five and a half pounds ( recent vet trip ) and that particular lid survived the journey here from Bristol with Parcelforce so it's a pretty rugged thing. In a bid to put your mind at ease I have now place a spare glass shelf from my Target rack on top of the lid for extra rigidity, and they can handle the nineteen kilos my amp weighs lol.

I've got an old tt laying around so perhaps I should teach her to use that as her bed instead lol.

My cat used to use my head for a bed when I was asleep. Used to wake up suffocating. Crazy cat

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

Mrs. Pony is a bigger threat to the finish of my stuff with her damn polishing cloth. I dust it all myself these days.

Last Christmas she squeezed the tree alongside one of the speakers. When she'd taken it down I found two very fine scratches on the side of the speaker. After she regained consciousness and had the tree surgically removed, she promised never to put the tree there again, and have the scratches made good.

Scratches have not been sorted yet. Any advice? they're very fine, not deep and about 3" long.
