I've known a few like that. A week's pay gone in a couple of hours and nothing left to pay the rent or feed the kids. Barmy!

Glad I'm not inclined to gamble. Got enough bad habits already.

I don't believe there us such a thing as 'an addictive personality'. Just an excuse for people to do what they like and have someone else pick up the pieces.

My 'gambling is glamorous' comment was tongue in cheek btw.

speak to a psychiatrist. there is.. some folk can get addicted to almost anything easily, some folk dont. my stepson has it, thats why i control his meds and cash etc. doc has to do his stuff in doses etc. Ive known a few folk that are normal folk and yet cant say no to some things; a bit like hoarders.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Well said yes. I thought it a disgrace when gambling advertising was allowed! I'd also ban junk mail of all sorts.

There's a difference between having a legitimate medical condition and simply acting irresponsibly with the expectation that someone else will sort out the mess you've made and dry your eyes for you whilst scolding the nasty people who 'tempted' you in. Some people just use this as an excuse to do whatever the hell they want without any consequences. That's what happens when you construct a nanny state. People take the piss.

Indeed, and it'll be this that Grant was referring to, which is undeniably true, and which many people today suffer from. Although unofficially recognised as a medical condition, many medical experts consider it as a legitimate condition:

Sadly, I think many 'hi-fi victims' suffer from certain aspects of it!

Pet hates etc... Virtually everything Macca says on social and political matters I find VERY offensive... (I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the feeling was mutual) He could get Katie Hopkins old job at the Daily Heil! At least we largely agree on hi fi and many other matters... There yer go.. I said it...With Marco it's the other way round

Lol - we agree on hi-fi too, *sometimes*, just not what you've got a bee in your bonnet about!

On social and political subjects, however, we're pretty much entirely in agreement

it isn't called 'addictive personality' though. That's just an excuse someone made up.
