Various places; most recently when buying wine online. In theory it's so they can contact you when the delivery driver's on his/her way. Some sites let you complete the purchase without completing the mobile number section.

Yeah, I simply bypass that or give my landline number, as there's usually that option. They'd have hee-haw chance of getting me on my mobile, as it's usually switched off!

However, I've never been asked to give my mobile number, for the purpose of identifying myself with an online purchase, as you mentioned before. Interesting.

If I do a google search of a particular item of hifi, Audiogon often come up as having one for sale. Then when I look I see the listing has ended. Always. When are they finally going to change their name to Audio Gone? Why should obsolete shit like this needlessly clutter the searches?

Got a letter earlier this week from British Gas, informing us that due to some overpayment, they are refunding the excess. So included with the letter is a cheque for...67p! I suppose if I walk the 7 mile round trip to pay it into the bank, rather than using the car and burning diesel, I won't lose out on the deal. Or I could post it to the bank, and if I send it second class I will be 13p better off. Need to hurry though - after next month my windfall will be reduced to 12p.
