    The unpredictable nature of avocados, sometimes they are rock hard in the shop even though described as ‘ready to eat’ and never ever get any softer, other times they soften up overnight while you are not looking and have turned to a grey/black mush inside when you come to eat them. Don’t tell me about storing them next to bananas or in a brown paper bag to ripen, there’s NO consistency with the b@st@rds - I do love the odd good one you get with a bit of vinaigrette though!

    Fortunately when any avocados I have bought from my local greengrocer haven't ripened, they give me another for free.

    Usually I can tell how ripe they are with a very gentle squeeze.
