I rate burgers on a scale of one to ten. The best burger I have ever had was at The Explorers Club in Northern Province, RSA, which rated a 10+. Second best was at a mom & pop owned burger bar in San Francisco, near Fisherman's Wharf which I rated 9+. I rate a "Big Mac" a minus one.

I get the basic patties from our tame butcher, who uses Aberdeen Angus steak. I re-shape them myself because they are too thick and small in diameter as they come. I learned how from The Spaniard in NYC.

To me its just paint by the numbers highly processed food...the meat tastes bland and full of fillers. Its nothing like the better burgers you can get.

I remember nipping in for the breakfast mcmuffin in London but I felt cheated on the satisfaction front. Hunger and availability leads to some strange decisions

Ok it fills a hole but very little more than that. Again I dont wanna sound like a snob but I just dont see the appeal.
I completely agree with that, Martin, and also your previous post. I guess that these commercial burger chains fulfil a purpose, but not one I'm remotely interested in. For me, they also send out the wrong message to kids (by how their marketing is targeted at them), who are already addicted enough to junk food...

As Grant says, as long as they're used as a "treat", should they be perceived as such by those who go there, and not frequented regularly, then I guess they're ok

I'll stick with fresh Aberdeen Angus (or Welsh Black) patties, from our local butcher, chargrilled in our BBQ, with Del's lovely homemade relish!
