“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. Not just the Parisians though they are probably the worst. About 50% of cars that we saw in our time in France had a dent somewhere.

It was amusing to try and imagine how some of the dents were acquired as some were in the strangest of places. We came up with a term - a French dent.

You should try driving around here in 'Little India'. I've never seen so many bloody useless drivers anywhere else.

There are quite a few roundabouts too here in Wrexham. They don't phase me at all, as I'm not a nervous driver, even the more complicated ones shown in the picture. As long as you remember the rules, and stick to them and take your time, whilst watching out for the bumbling idiots who haven't a clue, you'll be fine

The most 'interesting' roundabout experience I've had was when driving in Paris and unfortunately hitting the Arc de Triomphe at rush hour!

Trust me, the Parisian drivers are just NUTS!!

All for one, and one for all! CHARGGGE!!!!

    Marco.
Good advice that, remember the rules, stick to them, take your time - none of which applies when running the Arc de Triomphe gauntlet. We had the pleasure of that one a few years ago (with Mrs. P driving, nothing phases her), and the only rule seemed to be 'if you hit something, keep going'. Worst offenders were these riders of weird scooters with two wheels on the front - they're everywhere and come out of nowhere.

If that's what it sounds like, we have a similar part of Preston which you would do well to avoid if you've got a nice shiny new car. Curiously, it is home to probably the highest concentration of prestige cars in the whole city. If I lived round there I'd probably walk everywhere, or drive something so battered it looks like a Beirut taxi.

Lol yeah, I'm talking about in the UK, such as on that somewhat intricate roundabout, a picture of which was posted earlier, and that was claimed to be in Swindon.

The problem here on roundabouts is that too many folks have forgotten their highway code, or are too lazy to put it into practice, mixed with too many ditherers, who hesitate on the approach to roundabouts, as if they've encountered some 'strange entity' they simply don't know how to negotiate!

So they sit there, and sit there and SIT THERE, when they could've moved forward and gone an hour ago [I'm exaggerating a little, but you get the point], until there's no traffic coming for miles, and then EVENTUALLY SHIFT their reticent backsides!

I really can't abide ditherers. If you don't have the *confidence* to drive competently and decisively, stay off the bloody roads, because you're just a HAZARD to everyone else!!

Both me and Anita are pretty confident drivers, but on journeys she drives 90% of the time - I like to just sit there and take in the scenery, while she likes to be 'in charge'. If I drive she just spends much of her time texting or playing Candy Crush, which seems like a waste of a good pair of eyes to me.

Lol... Don't you TALK to each other, and engage in intelligent conversation, or perhaps listen to some nice music? Or is that unfashionable

If Del sat there, texting on her phone like that, whilst ignoring me, I'd be pretty annoyed (as it's rude), and vice versa - although that would be extremely unlikely, as I have next to no interest in mobile phones!

What the fook is Candy Crush?

Ha - Italians are the same, mate - possibly worse, as they combine ridiculous speed with sheer recklessness!!

But the French are certainly among the best for treating their cars simply as 'tin cans', to get from A to B. They don't wash or clean them EVER, and like you say, treat dents as perverse 'badges of honour'!

Who's that knocking on the door Marco? It's the 21st century and it wants a word with you.

We do talk on journeys, but not all the time, that would just get on me wick. And we are close enough to be capable of having periods of 'comfortable silence'. There is no one I'd rather go on journeys with, and I know she feels the same.

Perhaps you are someone who has to comment on EVERYTHING that passes your field of vision, or EVERYTHING that comes into your head, but that wouldn't do for us.
