The theory that war is good for an economy is often repeated but is not really based in fact. Obviously some people make a profit, but overall, as someone (I forget who) once said, it is the same as taking the entire year's output of Ford and General Motors, smashing it up and burying it in a field. War bankrupts even the strongest economies.

Almost impossible to open (when you're all wet and slippery) shampoo and shower gel bottles.

Totally agree, I think I also mentioned these some time ago for being designed to topple over at the slightest touch (after which it was helpfully suggested that I shouldn't keep them on a shelf - so no need to repeat that particular advice)

Not long ago a large bottle of shampoo fell on my big toe while my eyes were shut in the shower, a most unpleasant surprise! And my toe was swollen and purple for a week!

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

TV ads are bad enough but when they're clearly foreign ads dubbed into english that's just taking the piss, they couldn't even be bothered to make a dedicated UK ad!

They can be unintentionally funny, though. Who can forget 'The Ambassador's Reception?'
