Best supermarket trip ever this morning. Straight in early doors, bought up the entire stock of apple danishes, no crowds, no queue at the till, in and out in under ten minutes. Why can't it always be like that?

Lol @ Apple Danishes. Did you get some real food , too?

When you're retired, you'll be able to replicate that experience everyday. I go shopping at 10am on weekday mornings. Usually get the supermarket to myself

Lol - they're lovely, but I rarely eat cakes. Not really a cake or dessert person. Nice ice-cream is my thing, but only occasionally

I'm more into eating 'proper food', such as the other stuff you mentioned. Also, if you eat properly (have filling meals), you don't need to snack and eat junk in between them. Custard, on the rare occasions we have it, we make ourselves, as bought stuff is vile in comparison. Surprised you don't!

Damn straight. And one of your five a day too.

Marco - no I just bought junk. And some kitchen roll and a box of those soap tablet things for the washing machine.

Ha - love it! For me, if I can't taste the flavour of fresh vanilla pods, it ain't custard. Shop-bought custard to me tastes about as exciting as wallpaper paste.

Yeah, I love the flavour of *true* vanilla in anything. In that respect, especially in baking, always use vanilla essence, not extract!

Here's my favourite type of 'custard', Italian style:

Del makes an awesome one, based on my aunt's old recipe, which is GORGEOUS!

Have you ever had Zabaglione? Bet Tony has
