Maybe they could I've not tried it, I might give it a go.

Google are horrendous for intrusivess mate. If you leave GPS switched on your phone (which I keep doing because I forget to switch it off) then Google know absolutely everywhere you have been. I get messages telling me everywhere I have been in the last month, down to shops I had forgotten I'd visited.

I do think that one day the US tech giants will become a thing of the past when the world becomes pissed off with their arrogance and the ridiculous amount of social, financial and political power they have.

One of the reasons I ditched my Samsung/Android tablet

Worst though is that there have been many reports of users switching off the tracking/data stealing features on Google ... only to find that they were still being tracked regardless

I have now taken to using my phone as little as possible ... and switching it off if not needed.

If ever I worked near a pub or café, I would later get a message asking me to rate my visit to that establishment. Apparently I could turn this off but I never bothered as I couldn't care less who knows where I am, not since I resigned my position with MI6.
I just dropped in, to see what condition my condition was in

That's not the point though, mate. It's the "Big Brother" watching you thing, and the complete unauthorised invasion of privacy! That's utterly abhorrent and one of the reasons why I've shunned smartphones for so long.

I don't get any of this stuff. But I think mine has Microsoft o/s.

I don't actually care if they know where I am, but if I was doing crime I'd just leave the 'phone at a friends house, then, when they check it, it will support my statement that I'd been at his place all evening.

Lol... The thing is, I'm someone who delights in being 'off grid'. I have no need to be 'connected' 24/7 to any form of modern technology, so I don't want to be surreptitiously 'spied on' by anyone, even though I've got nothing to hide (other than the annual cross-dressing conventions I attend in Coventry, but you didn't hear that from me).

    The 'Beagle Street' ads.

Don't know about you but if I had just moved into my new house and my (now-you-mention-it) creepy looking wife started giving me the hard sell on life insurance I'd be nipping on down to the shop for a packet of fags and not coming back.

No we didn't, but your sat nav destination was posted in "Garmin Varmints" monthly. And you thought your 'special requirements' would go unnoticed.

Oh Im just resigned to the fact that they can pull data off my phone but why worry if Im not doing anything wrong.

I think most people complain that the mrs can track you and spoil a good affair

Ive a lot of respect for people like John Cooper Clarke who seems to be off grid with this sort of stuff. Ive read you had to leave a message with his mum to have any chance of contacting him.

The younger generation are so visual but I worry that the balance has to be right between privacy and phone convenience

You can rest assured that anyone who tracks your every move and your analyses your browsing history and search arguements is only doing it to supply you with tailored advertisements and information you might find useful and to give you an altogether more pleasurable and fulfilling on-line experience. ...My @rse!
