“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Agreed - if it's not the culinary police, or motor maniacs, it's the fashionistas.

I don't know if I pity or despise people that wear spectacles that have plain glass not prescription lenses, just so they can wear them as a fashion accessory not an aid to correct visual impairment. It strikes me as the shallowest, most idiotic trend. It makes me want to say things like "this is what is wrong with society".

Unfortunately I do know of such an idiot, she thinks it's perfectly fine and lets her teenage daughter wear them. She is a co-worker so unfortunately I can't avoid her, it all came to light when she asked me if mine were real. I would have shrugged it off as just being her (she's not the sharpest tool in the box) had I not come across it again by coincidence whilst watching YouTube.

I too have been a spectacle wearer for more years than I care to remember. I even had contacts in my twenties.

I'm taking deep breath's now and repeating the words "and relax"

I find that very strange Rich... why on earth would anyone think that wearing specs was kinda cool somehow ?

I happen to dislike specs which is why I never wore them and went straight to contacts, however I take my contacts out when I get home and wear specs but I'd never wear them 'out'...

I've always told people that if I have a car and my contacts I'm a happy bunny and I don't need much else.... strange but true....

Defo..... take a deep breath and ................................. relax...........

Nothing as strange as folks a ?
