Default Porto & Douro Valley - Portugal

Just spent a week cruising up the Douro river valley in Portugal followed by a few days in Porto. Thoroughly enjoyed it, though as usual my crap photography failed to do justice to what we saw

    The boat

Sailed from Porto up river as fas as the border with Spain and then back.

Went through some fantastic locks with height differences of up to 35 metres

Looks awesome - did you get a chance to sample the heavyweight Douro red wines?

    I most certainly did!
Wall to wall vineyards means that wine & obviously port are extremely reasonable. I remember a particularly good house red that I had in one backstreet restaurant, a wine that I would be quite happy with if it was the only red wine I could drink for the rest of my days. From memory I think the price of a 0.5 litre jug was less than £3

Yikes that is cheap - I have spent many holidays in Greece but the decent wine isn't at all cheap any more ...

We went to Porto last year and went up the Douro. Highly recommended trip. One of the best European city breaks I've been on.
