Major performance upgrades and now with added love for vinyl -

Naim Audio's new SuperNait 3 integrated amplifier is at Musicraft (Derby)

In the six years since the last NAIT integrated amplifiers were released, our research and development team have worked on a range of amplifier improvements. The result is upgraded power amplifier sections for SUPERNAIT 3, delivering greater pace and intimacy to their musical delivery – whether it's driving a pair of loudspeakers or your favourite pair of headphones.

SUPERNAIT 3 has received significant performance upgrades, including a built-in phono stage, making it a perfect partner for turntables, as well as for streamers, CD players, or any other music source people want to enjoy with the signature Naim sound.

It also includes a Class A preamp output stage which doubles as a headphone amplifier and ceramic heatsink technology that minimises capacitive coupling between the chassis and output transistors for optimum sound quality.

Its inputs are each individually decoupled and hand-wired to minimise noise and interference while internal switching employs ultra-low-noise, constant current sources which are derived directly from the electronic design of the flagship NAC 552 preamplifier.

The SUPERNAIT 3 can be upgraded with our external power supplies, power amplifiers and even cabling upgrades to get the best from all sources.

Naim's story begins with one man’s passion for music and weaves its way through four decades and a raft of iconic product launches to the present day.

Naim Audio founder Julian Vereker MBE (1945-2000) was a racing car driver, entrepreneur and self-taught engineer with a deep passion for music. Spending his spare time listening to and recording his friends playing live in the 1960s, Julian found that playback on his system at home fell woefully short of the experience he craved.

Not content with second best he decided to design his own amplifiers and loudspeakers, ignoring accepted wisdom and focusing on aspects of performance that made music burst to life. These first designs laid the foundations for a range of iconic and award-winning hi-fi products that would reach well into the next century.

What Hi-Fi reviews Naim Audio's new SuperNait 3 integrated amplifier

"If you’re looking for an entertaining yet informative integrated amplifier, the Supernait 3 is a brilliant choice."

"The Supernait 3 sounds solid and muscular, handling whatever you throw at it in terms of music and partnering speakers. We try a range of alternatives to our reference ATC SCM 50s and the Naim never sounds like it has to try hard to make them bend to its will."

"Such confidence works wonders for the listener. When that subliminal messiness of an amplifier struggling isn’t present, it’s easier to focus on the music instead. That’s what the Supernait, regardless of generation, has always done best."

"We can’t think of a more capable alternative when it comes to rhythmic drive and precision. The Supernait 3 conveys the changing momentum of this music brilliantly, capturing the various mood changes between tracks with conviction."

"Detail resolution is good, and it’s easy to get insight into the recording and the production methods used. But it never feels as though the Naim makes this a priority. It’s simply about getting to the heart of the musical message and feeling the emotion that the artist intended."

"The previous generation of Supernait wasn’t broken and so Naim hasn’t fixed it. But, in adding a good quality MM phono stage and tweaking the power amplifier section, it has made a great amplifier even better. If you’re looking for an integrated at this level, you must hear this one."

The Ear reviews Naim Audio's new SuperNait 3 integrated amplifier[/b]

"With a weekend of warm-up behind it, I went ahead and started listening properly to the third generation of the Supernait. About a minute later I realised that I was grinning for ear to ear, and that my feet were tapping uncontrollably. I suddenly remembered why I had fallen for the Naim sound 15 years before, and how much I had missed it since."

"Track after track, I was utterly enthralled."

"What struck me right away as I listened was that the sound was just ‘right’. Naim’s famous pace rhythm and timing were all there of course, but so was a huge amount of detail, and really good bass. My memory of the first two Supernaits was that they were not particularly strong in the very lowest octaves, but this revised version has plentiful fast, punchy and tuneful bass on offer."

"The Harbeth P3ESRs are not efficient loudspeakers – they like an amplifier that can serve them with lots of current and yet which controls them too. I have never heard them sound better. The same held true of the much bigger Harbeth Super HL5+ 40thAnniversry editions, which are my main loudspeaker at the moment. These large standmounts absolutely revelled in the power and control from the Supernait 3. The Naim/Harbeth combination creates an addictive sound, totally non-fatiguing yet utterly compelling."

"The Classic series is still very much alive and kicking and the Supernait 3 is living, musical proof. It is a shamelessly analogue device, as far as inputs and outputs are concerned. It may almost be an anachronism in an era where manufacturers’ marketing gurus are straining every sinew to cover every possible market segment with product. But as the beating heart of a music lover’s system, this integrated may just be the last amplifier most of us could ever want or need. Conceived, designed and built in Salisbury, this thing is a triumph. Bravo Naim!"

Hi-Fi Plus reviews Naim Audio's new SuperNait 3 integrated amplifier

"My first notes contained words like ‘grunty’ and ‘solid’ when discussing drums and bass guitars. The amplifier provided a lot of drive for rhythm se ctions and an infectious groove from the speakers."

"The Supernait 3 is not the last word in transparency, but it gets to leading edges with gusto, and does indeed have a sense of speed that is in another league to its predecessor. The immediacy of a drum kit first made this obvious, but that sense of speed is a factor that becomes apparent in a lot of different pieces of music. It makes listening a far more engaging experience."

" I was, however, constantly drawn to the bass lines it produced."

"We know that Naim amps boogie: what is more surprising is that they do it so well in integrated amplifier form and deliver robust imaging – another anathema to the chrome bumper
    brigade."

"I have to hand it to Steve Sells and the Naim engineering team. They have taken a design that was already quite refined and bettered it. The notion that speed is more important than
harmonic distortion is right on the money. This research helps explain why so many amps that measure correctly leave you underwhelmed when it comes to reproducing music. However, in the context of the Supernait 3, quite simply it improves significantly on its forebears in every respect. Given the success of the Supernait that says a lot!"

Hi-Fi Choice reviews Naim Audio's new SuperNait 3 integrated amplifier -

    https://www.naimaudio.com/sites/defa..._3_Reprint.pdf

"The most notable change is the removal of the cascode stage in the output. This has been a feature of Naim integrated amplifier designs for a very long time, but thanks to carefully optimising the second stage gain transistors the need for it is eliminated and the amplifier stability is said to improve as a result. This means the slew rate – the change in the output voltage relative to the input – doubles and translates to a sonic improvement, says Naim."

"Where the Supernait 3 stands out as significantly different from both of its predecessors – and indeed almost any Naim device I’ve experienced before is the amount of delicacy that’s now on offer. A 24/96 download of Emily Barker’s Disappear is a bare-bone recording that delivers the sense of musicians being in the room, thanks to the amp’s ability to capture the nuances of the instruments and the arrangement of the performers that’s beyond what I’ve come to expect from previous integratedes. Not only are the strings of the violin and cello tonally rich and believable, but there is far more sense of the slurring movement from note to note."

"Cumulatively, what the additional detail and spatial ability adds up to is a Naim amplifier that has a far greater ability to create a believable soundstage."

"The deep but controlled and detailed bass that starts and stops with absolute precision means that it always sounds utterly assured in a way that only a scant number of rivals can match."

"and demonstrates the tweaks made to the Supernait 3’s power supply arrangements with an impressive amount of grip and drive applied to its handling of the speaker."

"For similar money, there are rivals with higher claimed power outputs, but the Supernait 3 is unlikely to find itself at a disadvantage. It offers a thoroughly useful set of connections that come in a chassis that is superbly finished and extremely easy to accommodate. The truly brilliant aspect of the Supernait 3 is how it further evolves the Naim sound without feeling like there has been unnatural or wholesale change to what has appealed to listeners before. It still hits hard and goes like the clappers, but when you need a little more nuance, it effortlessly provides a high level of subtlety and is one of the most accomplished integrated amps I’ve heard and a true all-rounder."

Hi-Fi Critic reviews Naim Audio's new SuperNait 3 integrated amplifier -

    https://www.naimaudio.com/sites/defa...0interview.pdf

"IN REINVENTING ITS ACCLAIMED ONE-BOX AMPLIFIER, NAIM HAS MORE THAN SIMPLY SUCCUMBED TO FASHION WITH AN ONBOARD MOVING MAGNET PHONO STAGE – IT HAS ALSO IMPROVED OVERALL PERFORMANCE TO A REMARKABLE EXTENT"

"Playing the recent Bergen Philharmonic/Andrew Litton recording of Elgar’s Enigma Variations (on BIS), it’s the speed and deftness of the Supernait 3 that grabs the attention – well, that and the powerful, extended bass. The amp, fed from the ND555, delivers a beautifully ripe sound in the brass, with serious percussion impact, while the strings sound sweet and characterful, and the great sweep of the orchestra in the skittering Troyte variation displays the excellent microdynamic ability; however fast and complex the music becomes, the Naim always sounds completely in control and unflappable."

"Similarly the great growl of the organ in the final movement of Christopher Jacobson’s recording of the Saint Saëns Third Symphony, in DSD from Pentatone, is magnificent. So is the delicacy with which the sound of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande under Kazuki Yamada builds in drama and tension, that great instrument always lurking, as it were, in the background ready to be unleashed again in an explosion of brass, percussion and finally the organ. It’s a thrilling sound, right to the moment when the last note disperses into the acoustic."

"That clarity is also heard to great effect on the Truth, Liberty & Soul live set by Jaco Pastorius, his bass grumbling deliciously through a free-form take on ‘I Shot The Sherriff ’, while the way the Naim powers out ZZ Top’s ‘La Grange’ or the fuzzy guitar solo in the middle of ‘Cheap Sunglasses’ from the Goin’ 50 compilation shows the amp’s just waiting to turn on the swagger when required."

"It’s pretty clear that this new Supernait is much more than a Mk2 with a phono stage bolted in: all the other changes Steve Sells laid out in our interview about the design thinking have clearly paid dividends, keeping the Supernait 3 firmly in place as a domestically acceptable way of achieving the best Naim can do."

Hi-Fi News reviews Naim Audio's new Nait XS 3 integrated amplifier -

    https://www.naimaudio.com/sites/defa...LOW%5B1%5D.pdf

"Naim’s latest version of its classic Nait amplifier features not only improved overall performance, but also a built-in phono stage. Whatever will they think of next?"

"There’s a lovely warmth and richness to the sound from vinyl, allied to fine detail and a smooth, easy going quality that makes it a delight to listen to. Playing The Police’s Regatta De Blanc [A&M AMLH64792] showed the way the XS 3 can track even the fastest of beats while still driving the music hard, and proves just how tight a rhythm unit Sting and Stewart Copeland were. The Nait XS 3 powers through the title track with real warmth and impact. That ability to create a rich, solid sound while still displaying huge amounts of detail is just as much in evidence with a much more recent LP release."

"What the Nait XS 3 does so well is clarity, that usual foot-tapping Naim thing with an insight that draws you into whatever’s being played."

"the Nait XS 3’s lowdown power and clean, controlled midband and top end were just the thing, crunching out the rhythm section of ‘Vibracion Positive’ with an impressive mix of big weight and good-time snap. This is a wonderfully atmospheric album, and that’s just how the Nait XS 3 delivered it."

"the Naim Nait XS 3 manages to deliver Hannon’s catchy ability with a tune while – vitally – ensuring the cutting lyrics are kept smile-inducingly clear."

    Naim Audio NAIT XS 3

Major performance upgrades and now with added love for vinyl -

Naim Audio's new Nait XS3 integrated amplifier is at Musicraft (Derby)

In the six years since the last NAIT integrated amplifiers were released, our research and development team have worked on a range of amplifier improvements.

The result is upgraded power amplifier sections for NAIT XS 3, delivering greater pace and intimacy to their musical delivery – whether it's driving a pair of loudspeakers or your favourite pair of headphones.

The NAIT XS 3 has received significant performance upgrades, including a built-in phono stage, making it a perfect partner for turntables, as well as for streamers, CD players, or any other music source people want to enjoy with the signature Naim sound.

The NAIT XS 3 offers much of the performance of our reference quality SUPERNAIT 3 in a simpler, slimmer package combining a 70W power amplifier with five analogue inputs plus a phono stage. Its high-performance preamplifier stage is as transparent as you would expect from a Naim Audio amplifier, and it also shares the single-ended class-A headphone output of its larger sibling.

The NAIT XS 3 can be upgraded with our external power supplies, power amplifiers and even cabling upgrades to get the best from all sources.

What Hi-fi reviews Naim Audio's new Nait XS 3 integrated amplifier

"What Hi-Fi? Awards 2019 winner. The third generation of a supremely musical amp"

"Take a look inside that crisp but solid casework and you’ll find immaculately assembled audio circuitry fed by a generous power-supply section. Great care has been taken in reducing the degrading effect of outside interference and unwanted interactions between components."

"We’re impressed by the attention to detail here. It drills right the way down to the shaping of connecting wiring and the exact number and placement of the tie clips used to hold it in place. Yes, it’s true that someone at Naim does indeed sit down and listen to the difference these things make."

"The commitment to getting things right is obvious when we listen to the product. We’ve always liked the Nait XS and there’s nothing we hear in this third-generation model that changes our mind."

"Compared with the last generation, and thanks to those tweaks in the power-amp circuitry, the ’3 sounds a little crisper and more agile. The differences aren’t massive, and certainly not of the order that we would suggest that an owner of a previous generation upgrade to this one. But, they’re enough to keep Naim at the cutting edge of performance at this price."

"We move to the line inputs and the Nait continues to impress with a combination of insight, dynamic subtlety and rhythmic drive that’s hard to better at this level."

"Detail resolution is good, but it’s the amplifier’s ability to assemble all that information into a cohesive whole that really impresses."

"The Nait XS 3 is a fit-and-forget product in the best sense. It slots into your system and does exactly what you want it to, and that’s deliver the music with emotional impact intact. We can’t ask any more of an amplifier than that."

The Ear reviews Naim Audio's NAP 250 DR power amplifier -

    http://www.the-ear.net/review-hardwa...ower-amplifier

"This is easily the best sounding Naim amplifier I have reviewed, and one of the best power amps I’ve reviewed period. It has transparency, pace and bandwidth that caught me by surprise. Having heard what Statement could do I was optimistic but expectations have been well and truly exceeded."

"The NAP 250 DR is that sort of amplifier, one that gets out of the way so that you get carried away by the music, a seemingly simple trick but one that not enough revealing amplifiers can pull off."

"It does a remarkable job of showing you how musicians bounce off one another when they play together, this comes down to speed, there is little in the way of time smear with this amp, notes stop when they should so there is very little overhang."

"If you are looking for a tool that shows you precisely what’s going on in a recording this is one of the best amplifiers for the job, but it still puts the musical message first, analysis may be possible but emotional communication is the essence."

Hi-Fi News reviews Naim Audio's NAP 250 DR power amplifier

"Naim’s Discrete Regulation and bespoke transistor technology from its flagship Statement amplifier combine to revitalise the company’s classic power amp."

"No mistaking the huge toroidal transformer feeding dual, discretely-regulated PSUs for the NAP 250 DR’s voltage and power output stages. Naim’s NA009 transistors are mounted under the central (black) heatsinking."

"Obvious even from a brief listen is the sheer power of the amplifier – and here I’m not talking about the figures on paper, which are easily bettered by plenty of amplifiers selling for less than the Naim, but the way it propels music along, and the impact it can deliver. Not only does the NAP 250 DR prove capable of presenting bass with a satisfying – and often surprising – weight and slam, it also shows just how well-controlled is its low end, with speed and dexterity when a drum-kit and/or electric bass is motoring."

"Similar qualities were very much in evidence with the Kansas City Symphony/Michael Stern recording of Britten’s Young Person’s Guide To The Orchestra [DSD64 from Reference Recordings RR-120SACD]. This is not just a great system-tester due to its encyclopaedic survey of the instruments of the orchestra, but also due to its remarkable dynamics. Listening to the great final fugue building via the Naim is a truly spectacular experience, from the fine detailing in the woodwind right through to the great slams of the full band at the end."

"But it lives up to the promise of its near-16kg fi ghting weight and that massive toroidal transformer dominating the interior view with a sound that can hit hard, play it cool or just captivate with the sheer detail and musicality on offer."

    https://www.naimaudio.com/sites/defa...Power-Amps.pdf
Audio-Esoterica reviews Naim Audio's NAP 250 DR power amplifier

"Several of our dynamics torture tests (featuring well produced drums, powerful orchestral, rock and World Music recordings) showed the DR could just as well stand for ‘Dynamic Range’ when compared with the straight NAP 250."

"Naim does things in a distinctively individual way; from the minimalist styling carried across all its products to the circuitry and proprietary connectivity. There’s a clear statement here: ‘follow us on our path and we’ll take you to the music’. And indeed, with the NAP 250 DR, that’s exactly the destination. And really, what more can you ask of any amplifier..."

Naim Audio NAP 250 DR - Modern yet classic -

Few components in the history of hi-fi can match the pedigree of the mighty NAP 250. First introduced in 1975, its regular updates – both aesthetic and technical – have kept it at the very forefront of power amplifier performance for more than three decades, creating unforgettable musical experiences for countless music lovers worldwide.

The latest NAP 250 DR lives up to the challenge set by its predecessors. Housed in the low-resonance, anodised aluminium enclosure of the Classic Series, it delivers 80W per channel (into 8ohms) with all the speed, power and agility needed to unleash your music.

    New for 2015 – Statement technology -

Our flagship Statement amplification system was ten years in the making. The research and development project drew on all of our knowledge and expertise, yielding several breakthroughs in technology. Now for 2015 we’ve introduced two new technologies from the Statement project to our core range of power amplifiers.

The NAP 250 DR now features the new NA009 transistors first introduced in Statement. In development for over a year, this key component was created in partnership with a specialist semi-conductor manufacturer to achieve the best possible sound quality. The NAP 250 DR also includes the high power Naim DR (Discrete Regulator) technology used in Statement to provide the smooth, stable power supply we know is critical for the audio electronics to make music come to life.

These two new technologies, combined with other small improvements to layout and componentry, mean the NAP 250 DR can produce even more of the fundamental musical pace, rhythm and timing that made the originals so popular with music lovers.

    Features -

    — 80W per channel output into 8 ohms
    — Large custom-designed transformer providing 400VA of transient power
    — Advanced 009 output transistors, as used in our reference NAP 500 and Statement power amplifier

    Technology & Craft -

Like the flagship NAP 500 DR, and the NAP 300 DR, the NAP 250 DR uses a new circuit design with improved earthing arrangements, built on a very high quality, anti-resonance main audio circuit board. The NAP 250 DR uses the same 009 transistors that were custom-designed for the Statement amplification. These outstanding components each provide up to 80 amps and 350 Watts, negating the need to use parallel pairs of transistors (which always have a negative effect on sound). Additional 009 transistors are used in the fully regulated power supply, ensuring the very best performance.

A new top-quality transformer is used providing the ability to deliver more than 15 Amps and swing a massive 400VA on transients. The NAP 250 DR is stable into any load and able to drive a 2-Ohm load for long periods of time.
