Mayware bits wanted

I've just acquired an unused Mayware Formula IV (Mk III I think, it hasn't actually arrived yet), which is missing it's counterweight and the arc-shaped arm-lift platform. Does anyone have any spares, or alternatively the weight and dimensions of the counterweight?

Welcome to the forum

Your best port of call I think would be speaking to Andr'e (Vinyl Grinder) here who I believe is in the process of rebuilding a Mayware - in fact he knows quite a lot about Maywares in general. If he doesn't respond here then PM him and I'm sure he will be able to help.

Hi Shane:

Providing it's a MkIII, the same as mine:







Weight:80g
Overall diameter:38mm
Thickness:10mm

As you can see from the drawing it's drilled off centre, this is important as to set the correct Azimuth etc...The bore is 14mm but has an hard rubber insert (Measurement without Rubber), the fixing piece, fits inside the rubber (Rubber glued in) which clamps to the rear tube with nylon screw.Might be a job getting hold of the rubber insert, maybe you be best making one like the ' Heavy Weight 'Rega upgrade they are drilled through the side at shallowest section with thin nylon linner for fixing to stub in which case you'll need to drill the centre to accomodate the rear stub which will be 5mm + dia instead of the original 14mm obviously..note: & not 6mm like the main armtube it's 5mm rear stub.



Simular to this Rega upgrade then.You must have a grub screw fixing you can just see it poking out of the top of the Rega weight..

did you ever hear the MC-2V cartridge? I had one way back. A friend still has it in store & I may get it back from him. Not been used much. I can't for the life of me remember how it sounded although I'd have used it with the battery powered Lentek head amp rather than a transformer in those days. It would've replaced a stock 103 so it can't be all bad!

Do you know who made it? Did you ever hear one.

I'll post about it here when I get it back.

I've had 'MC-7V'..Had this with the 'T24' step up..really good.There was an 'MC-3' which was simular to the 'MC-2' but high output ..The 'MC-7' is Very good jap cartridge, i'm assuming they were japs! (Don't know who made them for Mayware),Used the Logic 'Clario'(think these were Dynavector manufactured) with an hadcock before, tried both carts in the hadcock & the new Mayware, the Mayware cart & arm floored the previous, was the 'MC-7V' low end i liked if i remember ..I'd like to hear what you think Guy..

I bought the Mayware arm, cart & step up for not much over £100.00 around the time i left school.Bargin of the century & vastly under priced...Infact the set was probably the best every hi-fi i bought..

That price was new mail order Guy..

The other aswell as the JH you just shown were Polk & the the variant as per your PM...The best one to try locate is that one i have.You might have noticed the JH has the hanging bias weight in the style of the old Transcriptors 'Fluid Arm'..

The 'TD160' was a good deck for them.Don't know if you remeber the specialist firm ATR who used to import there version of the 'TD160' with either Mayware or Hadcocks fitted.These were nice machines.Prefered these to the 'TD160 SUPER'.
