    Bargain!
“Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of fuel. Sentimental people call it inspiration, but what they really mean is fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio”

I've done a few in the past but got so fed up with certain groups of people* wanting everything for nothing that I now prefer to take unwanted stuff to charity shops, I'd rather give it away than let the vultures have it.

I've come across these before. They use repeated visits with their silly offers and the language barrier to wear us down - it would probably work on me, but Mrs. P won't stand for any nonsense, and has on occasion sold to someone else cheaper just on principle.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

When I used to do car boots many years ago (and for me it was a living not just a novelty day out) I was at first surprised at how the punters wanted to buy decent stuff for next to nothing.

Slowly it dawned on me that if they had any money they would be shopping at Harrods and not at a run-down greyhound racing stadium during a pre-dawn rainstorm.

Yes and thats why carboots are not really a midday stroll and finding quality stuff you like.

As you say the dealers will be unloading cars and telling them to hurry up way before the official opening time. Theres clearly money to be made pouncing on the newbies.

Im the sort that likes to wander round with an ice cream at a reasonable hour of the day. Of course there is nothing left that hasnt been raked over so I dont bother any more.... well very rarely on a sunny day with a vain hope of finding something small and cheap.

Its the sharp end of trading and plenty of dodgy dealers at the bigger ones. A 7.5 tonne truck full of crap like smashed up amplifiers and old computers...straight out of the recycling skip and all laid out on a tarp in a field...lovely

I think its amazing what people do buy...old toasters and kettles...most of it is junk anyway. I think some of them have serious money but everybody loves a bargain eh
