I suppose eveybodys forgotten that the LP12 originaly had a ribbed rubber mat. So felt was not part of the original design.

Indeed, Paul, but how many people are running LP12s, specced from the ribbed rubber-mat era?
The fact is, the vast majority of people will own LP12s of more recent vintage, where the felt mat was integral to the design.

LOL. Just saying. The occasional rubber mat version turns up on Ebay. Anyone into Hi-fi would have changed it unless they want to stay strictly vintage. I was hinting that the felt mat is just one of many tweaks and changes made to the LP12 and not necessarily the best mat or integral to the design sounding right.

Absolutely... That last notion is certainly on a shaky peg, as many people these days shun using the felt mat, in favour of something else, which usually ends up being superior!
However, I can understand why some people, with traditional Linn/Naim systems, would prefer the effect of the felt mat. It depends on what you're looking for.
