In some ways I'm sad to see the JS units go, as what they did, sonically, I've never heard from any modern transformers.
However, the ST-80SE fits more with my vinyl reproduction methodology of achieving synergy, through using products from the same manufacturer, designed to work together. In my experience, you can't beat it when a tonearm, cartridge and SUT have all been 'born' from the same stable, as it were. In such instances, you can clearly hear the cumulative sonic benefits!
We'll see now whether the Silvercore can raise the bar even further or not. Apparently, the German chap who makes them is a diehard SPU fan, and so knows them inside out, and how to get the most out of them, rather like Keith Aschenbrenner does with the A23 range

One of my tape machines has 8 of these in - one for each input and output......we call used to call them REP coils (Repeating Coils) in broadcasting and they were used to convert unbalanced lines into balanced lines and vice versa.......that was before the days of OP Amps.

Indeed, Barry. I think that the chap (Giovanni), who bought them from me, will be delighted with them. The JS units had some enviable sonic qualities, but in the end, the ST-80SE just pipped them!
Next time you're up (it's been a while) you'll be able to hear what an 'all-Ortofon signature' from pick-up cartridge (SPU), through to SUT, sounds like... I think you'll be rather impressed
