I've done the same with a £9 set of scales off ebay, but my platform is a rather more basic affair cut from some thin aluminium sheet.

I've a 100g calibration weight that weighs the same when on the centre of the original platform or on my added one as do 2p pieces etc.

    Thanks Mark,
I've ordered the same model off eBay and intend to bend an old Amex card to the right shape.

I've got a spare acrylic platform you can have, if you want, Darren.

Actually, I was thinking of doing another for these scales:

They are a bit smaller and lighter (fit on the platter better) and still measure to 100th of a gram. They are only £8.00 (even after postage). If a few people wanted to buy them I could make platforms for them for a nominal sum.

Well, I think it is safest if I buy one of the scales and make the platform for it just to make sure it does what we want and the eBay seller isn't a scamer = I'll order it tonight.

I'm not thinking of buying a bunch of scales though - you guys buy the scales and I make the platform bit = let me check it all works for these other scales first though.

Me too, mine was 2 pieces of plasticard and a load of doublesided tape. I'm sure Mark will have seen it my room at some point. The scales unfortunately died but I have some other ones now called DJ Stylus Force. They are like this but were cheaper when I got them:
