Aren't musical instruments a work of art I may be mistaken, but it looks like part of an oboe to me - i'm probably wrong though

It's a Clarinet, Mark.
Buffet R13 Prestige - I've put my old Bb Clarinet (a Buffet RC) into retirement after being my faithful friend for the last 30 years or so. This new one's just blowing in so won't really be sounding as it should for the first few weeks - yes, even musical instruments take time to 'burn in'.
Very true about musical instruments being a work of art in their own right - I also think that written music is the same. There's a real beauty to it, true emotional energy in 2 dimensions. Oh...virtual pint to anyone who can recognise the piece in the picture.

Absolutely gorgeous, Richard. I'll bet there's significant pride of ownership in that.

I'm Nigel.
Mozart clarinet concerto
Thanks Martin.
To be honest it's probably not 'pride of ownership' as such, as it's what I use for work. Maybe if it was just a hobby I might feel different about it? Who knows. Still, there's always been something rather beautiful about it, and in some ways I prefer the looks of my old Clarinet - it's a bit worn here and there, the silver plating has corroded and worn away in places. Like cracked leather seats on an old sports car I dare say.
Nigel - wrong century and wrong country I'm afraid, but the composer of this piece does also have a 'z' in his surname.
