“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

That recording was made 10 years before the one my late father had (which I have inherited).

Mozart, Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Erich Kleiber, Hilde Gueden, Lisa Della Casa, Suzanne Danco, Cesare Siepi, Alfred Poell, Fernando Corena – 'Le Nozze Di Figaro'

Label: Ace Of Diamonds – GOS 585/7
    Series: Grand Opera Series
Format: 3 x Vinyl, LP Box Set
    Country: UK
    Released: 1971
    Genre: Classical
    Style: Classical, Opera

My father was a bit of an opera buff. He wasn't really interested in the plot, he just liked the sound of the singing. I'm afraid it hasn't rubbed off on me: I have all his opera vinyl box sets, but have yet to play any of them.

lol.... i like opera even tho its all in italian usually. gilbert and sullivan operettas too, as my brother used to sing all the bass roles with a few biggish companies in places like the usher hall and around country and even abroad. he had a fine voice when younger. all started in school doing often the said operettas etc.
