Bruckner.
Piano pieces. *An amazing transformation from the gothic cathedrals of orchestral sound that I am used to from Bruckner. *But great music still.

Thanks for all the recommendations previously Jerry, i did absolutely find some gems in there! (I'm obviously more of a modern classics guy than the romantic one)
So, in line with that im really enjoying some Berlioz;
Berlioz: Herbert Von Karajan & Berliner Philharmoniker - Symphone Fantastique (LP, DG Galerie (p)1975 (c)1982)
Edit:
Just coming into "The Witches Sabbath" it is sooo powerful the hairs on me arms stand straight up and eyes watering!

^ Good stuff, Mike - although Berlioz is modern in sound but shared nearly a quarter of a century with Beethoven!
Maybe have a go with this ---->>

A modern day Requiem.
Interesting!

An excellent, powerful, beautifully played and emotionally charged performance of the Brahms clarinet quintet.
I'm rather less taken with the clarinet trio performance here.

This is a nice find
Quite fast and perky, beautifully articulated and a lovely sense of*dynamic ebb & flow.
You can hear him huffing and puffing on occasion, though.

^ Wow, yeah, Gergiev can be very exciting when he sets his mind to it!
Try his Mahler 2nd symphony ....
_____
Brahms 2nd symphony from this Melodiya set
I really enjoyed Svetlanov in this. Incisive, exciting - exaggerated, jumpy? - yes, sure. A very Soviet Era performance full of incisive modern dance rhythms and squealing trumpets. Not everyone's cuppa, for sure, but I loved it for being different from the normal run of Brahms interpretations.

I just love this Holst album.
Not a Planet in sight, but wonderful music nonetheless.
Such an evocative opening to the first piece, beautiful.
It gets exciting later, mind.
Stunning sq, too.

Anyone got any heavy, moody classical they can recommend aside from the obvious 'Ludvig Van' please?
