As previously noted, I am a big fan of violinist Elmar Oliveira, so I thought I'd sample*his Brahms sonatas with a new amp that has just arrived -- and couldn't stop listening all the way through. *Lovely performances to my ear. (Nice amp, too).

I really enjoyed the beauty and sense of easy flow of these Bach solo violin concertos ...

A very fine performance of Bach's solo violin Partita #2 by Alina Abrigomova

And here she is again in another good'un, Mozart's string quintet K515

I didn't used to like Frank Martin's music, but I seem to have been cured of that affliction.
I came across this album including the violin concerto, and I liked it!

Which led me on to his cello concerto. and I enjoyed that, too.

A very fine performance (& recording) of Bartok's MSPC, one of the few works by him that I positively enjoy ...

A stunningly beautiful album featuring a dulcimer and vocals. Thanks to Tom 'montesqueu' for playing this album at a bake-off quite a few years ago. It's been one of my favourites ever since.

Bax's symphonies - it's a long, slow haul, but I am gradually getting in to them.

Really quite enjoyed #1 and #3 this evening - one key thing is to play them LOUD

Some quite striking, and very well recorded works for solo violin as well as string quartet.

    Bach cello suites.

I try Ma, and Starker and Rostropovich and Fournier and the rest.
And I always come back to Onczay as my favourite. Gloriously serene and flowing.
    Beautiful sq, too.
