Not really come across the Borodin symphonies before. Very enjoyable, listened twice and I shall come back for more!

Interesting performance of the Scottish symphony by Fey. Very energetic and sprightly, and he has a way of bringing out the brass lines which are usually rather buried in the mix; makes it very exciting and surprising at times.

Quite slowly paced in the 1st mvt, which I like, although not in Richter's class for tempo!

Spot on performance of the D. 664 sonata (#13) by this Russian player. Absolutely beautiful.

The early sonata is pretty good, but Schubert was just a lad then.
The Wanderer fantasy is a piece I hate. Loathsome and crass ( coarse; crude; unrefined or insensitive). Tub thumping at its worst. Maybe it's just me.

Fancied some Chopin Nocturnes last night - went on a bit of a Spotify sampling spree to find the set to settle down with.
Ended up very happy with Leonskaja - she has the flow, makes others seem disjointed and point-making.

This is the first time I've positively enjoyed a Stenhammar symphony!
Previous listens, to other recordings, have felt a bit meh. But this one captured my interest.
Maybe it was my mood, maybe it really is a bit special.
I shall try more Stenhammar.

Hugely impressed by Andrew Litton here, both as pianist and conductor. Great performances of the concerto and symphony. The slow mvt of the concerto is just stunningly beautiful with Litton.

I've owned this CD for over 20 years - I must have played it a dozen times in all.
It's a slow grower!
Some really excellent sections where Furtwangler hits the groove, and then he meanders along for a while and then you get another good bit.


I don't think it is on Spotify.


I really enjoyed the 2nd trio on this album.
There's a jauntiness that shows the players are enjoying themselves with this wonderful music and makes it fun as well as sublime. Other performers seem over-serious and staid - that doesn't work for me.
