Really enjoyable late romantic!
That 2nd piano concerto is a mighty fine work - if you love Bach, you'll love the opening sequence!- but it's all good. An unusually fine performance for the BBC freebie CD series, too.

The 3rd symphony this time.
Really very good - with excellent deep and controlled organ sound - even with my 300B amp!

Ooh nice - there's nothing like proper trouser-flapping bass from a well recorded organ.

My heartfelt thanks to Jerry for finding me a copy of this. What a wonderful performance! The opening violins in the 3rd are just right, the pace taken by Marin Alsop perfect. That organ at Leeds Town Hall is wonderful (is it really there, or did they overlay it from somewhere else?) with plenty of power. The balance between orchestra and organ is good and the brass section rings out, perhaps without the incredible blaze of my all-time favourite 3rd by Enrique Batiz on ASV (worth finding). The whole feels greater than the sum of its parts, for a symphony I've known most of my life and heard many times live.
Simply fab!
