enjoyed this a lot, although Pluhar looks as insufferably smug as ever

    This is amazing.
I really could get all of my musical entertainment from YouTube alone.

I came across violinist Zilliacus via a Bach violin search, and was bowled over by her solo Bach playing.
... unfortunately done in collaboration with a singer which rather f*cks up the Chaconne. The rest is great though.

... which led me on to this album of 2 contemporary violin concerti, neither composer have I heard of before, and I have to say these are growing on me quite nicely.

I've been listening to some of these primarily today, in fact Divertimento No. 15 In B Flat Major, K. 287, A1 Allegro & Tema Con Variazioni: Andante Grazioso at least 5 times trying to hear the impact of different mains cable on my amp, I have been lent some from a dealer, quite interesting if somewhat confusing. I think I now know this piece of music backwards, although it always has been a favourite.

Also I decided to try out my Ortofon Rondo Blue cartridge in the Pro-Ject Signature 10, it is some time since I had listened to it. I mated it to a Timepiece ebony head shell and took about 40 minutes setting it up in the arm, not hard just fiddly. So on went the same tracks and I was rather surprised at how good the Rondo performs compared to the Benz Micro LP-S. You would expect a big difference, but not really, its all there and is actually very nicely presented, perhaps using the Timepiece with the Rondo helps it to shine. I would say that certain detail and nuances are lost when compared to the the LP-S, but having said that the Rondo Blue gives a very relaxing and listenable rendition.

I have now put on below as I am quite enjoying my Mozart today.

    Divertimento No. 17 In D Major, K. 334
    Conductor – Neville Marriner*
Orchestra – The Academy Of St. Martin-in-the-Fields
    C1 Allegro 9:36
C2 Tema Con Variazioni: Andante 9:14
    C3 Menuetto 4:20
    C4 Adagio 6:31
    D1 Menuetto 6:26
    D2 Rondo: Allegro 9:15

By the way if any of you come across any of these sets at a good price then snap them up if they are in good condition, the recordings are extremely good IMO, I was very lucky and purchased 4 sets for £20, I should have had the other 4 as well.

Sumptuous, autumnal Brahms at perhaps its best.
    Gorgeous sound as well.

    The latest Barenboim on DG.
