Yes, you wouldn't want to approach her with, erm, anything 'soft'...

    Right now, this:

Are you familiar with Magnard, Jerry?

Oboe and organ - a strange seeming combination, but it works well.

I've tried his music a few times over the years, without it making much of an impression on me.

I often seem to be at cross purposes with French music.

No worries, I'm quite enjoying the above triple CD. Maybe check it out on Spotify?

    Yup.
Hmmm ... no, it kind of meanders for me.

Trying a BIS recording of the 1st symphony and it is much more purposeful and propulsive.
    Yes, this sounds promising.

Maybe a French conductor and French orchestra playing French music was just too French for me.
Whereas a German conductor with a Swedish orchestra makes French music more palatable for me.

Crank up your Spotify and give it a go! It has a very different feel to it to my ears.

Yes, a bit more tuneful, passionate and involving... Just shows you what a change of conductor and orchestra can make!

Hey, at least I got you into Magnard a bit more

Yep, it's part of what makes classical music so fascinating for me - different interpretations of the same work by different musicians can be very different experiences.

You seem to have set me off on a Magnard Fest

    I really enjoyed the international collaboration playing symphonies 1 & 3. I'll get on to 2 & 4 later.
