Not what you would expect from Benny Goodman, but quite good. One I picked up in charity shop.

Listening is the act of aural discrimination and dissemination of sound, and accepting you get it wrong sometimes.

Benz Micro LP-S, Michel Cusis MC, Goldring 2500 and Ortofon Rondo Blue cartridges

Default Horatio Nelson: 'The Saviour of Europe'

    Haydn: The Nelson Mass

A work originally composed in the paroxysm of fear felt at the dismal ascendancy of Napeoleon Bonaparte, the Missa in Angustiis (The Mass in Anguish), but one that would come to be forever associated with the noble life and exploits of the one of the greatest Englishmen ever to have lived, Horatio Lord Nelson.

As Haydn began to compose the mass he was unaware that Nelson, in excellent company, had dealt a decisive blow against the French at the Battle of the Nile [1798]. In the words of the popular ditty: '...sending French dreams of a realm in the East to the bottom of the salty sea...' Nelson would later go on to destroy the numerically superior combined fleets of France and her proxy state Spain at the Battle of Trafalgar [1805].

Quite right, not what I would have expected. Is this "jazzed up" in anyway or is it a legitimate performance of the work(s)? I realize Heir Mozart took liberties; but...

I've been listening to this on Qobuz for the past hour or so (and last night). Extremely good I think. SQ is excellent as is the music. Very open, clear and airy, allowing the "space" of the venue to shine through.

Highly recommended if you like Classical music.
