That explains that then. Thought it was just your dining room or something. I see now why you need a pretty decent second system.

Yup - I used to have the Maggie 1.6QR speakers there that Alan firebottle bought off me - great sound but they got in the way of the view too much!

I dunno all these big wanky expensive speakers and components when really a simple pair of half decent small speakers and a decent old amp can really do a pretty enjoyable job.

Might not be awesome, but there is goodness to be found for not much dosh.

That looks like a really nice second system Jerry. All you need to complete the look is one of the early Magnum Dynalab tuners, like the FT 101A. It would look great on that rack with that gear!

I like the big speakers, but I pretty much use decent old amps exclusively.

Yup, that sums up my view these days for audio electronics, too, even for the no-expense-spared big rig.
... although I dare say I'll be tempted back to the audiophile amp & DAC dark side sometime!

    Hmm.

    Nah. Not really my thing.
It's actually very similar to my vintage Philips amps, but somehow lacks their sense of style. For me the Magnum slips across the border from cool to fugly.

I much prefer my previously mentioned and recently acquired Grundig receiver ...

Now there is a thought - I may well try the Grundig in the 2nd system as a pukka system amp and see how it does.

I like the variety of listening to different gear. I still have a DAC but it's homebrew and doesn't see much action.

You have to see the Magnum Dynalab in person, as it looks WAY better than in that photo. Especially at night when the backlights glow a warmish yellow light : )

    Perhaps, Don.
Although I have seen the Dynalab in the flesh, and it reminded me a bit too much of ....

I suspect that it is just one of the infinite number of ways in which our audio tastes differ.
    - e.g. I am about as far from being an Audio Note fanboy as you can reach with a very long stick, whereas you seem rather fond of the stuff!
