    Default Another Dane

short version: I always loved music but its just these 6 last years that I have regained interest and possibilities to get some of that stereo gear I always wanted back in the 7oties when I couldn't afford it:

My primary Set up is a Garrard 301 Gray Greaser with a SME 3012 and Denon DL103 - Home made step up transformers cannibalised from two Luxman C120 - For Pre amp I now use a Luxman C-12 as my Luxman L58A is at the repair shop. For FM I use the Luxman T50A. For Power amps I have two EAR 549 and att he moment I have 12 Tannoy DCs in large 450 litres Duelund concrete horns. Very soon I will get a set of Lockwood Major boxes and will try them wit a Pair of Tannoy Monitor Golds 15" that have been lying around waiting for the right Box.

My secondary set up is the full range of Revox gear i bought as the first thing 6 years ago when i regained my interest in HiFI as it was one of the things I remembered from my youth as pretty cool. Its consist of Two Reel t. Reel B77, One B710 MKII, One B740 poweramp, On B750 MK II Intergreted amp used as Pre, One Tuner B760, one record player B790, one CD player B225 (CDs was unfortunately was not invented when the 700 series was produced) One Studer A 710 and a Set of BX 4100 Speakers (the ugly ones with 8 bass speakers in each box) and a Tascam CD recorder. I use this set up mostly when I digitalize analogue material.

My Mono set up is a LeaK Varislope III with a TL 25 plus power tube amp and a Lenco l70 with a Denon DL 102 mono pick up - and an old Philpis corner speaker cabinet with a Pioneer full range unit (mono with a good corner speaker is very underrated IMHO)

At my computer I use a USB dac, I Pioneer A-88X power amp and a Thorens TD 124 with ortofon arm and SPU gold pickup - Speakers on each side of my computer screen are Rogers LS3/5A 15 OHMS

I have different CD players and DACs but I mostly listen to LPs

I have a lot of other vintage gear - most of it at the house from were I run my office - and every time I see a chance I equip yet another room in the house with a set up.

The only (edit: new) gear - apart from Pick Ups - I have bought the last 6 years was a Cyrus CD s CD player that I sold as soon as I could get away with it (a lousy computer cd mechanism in an expensive box - IMHO)

    regards
    Ruben

I listen to Jazz 70% of the time, Classical 25 % of the time and rock/pop 5%

I I'm not into Big Bands or Traditional New Orleans but listen to a lot of bob music - so mostly jazz from the 50ties and 60ties - but also new and more experimental Jazz. My favourites are all the old Icons like Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Ben Webster, Thelounious Monk, Dexter Gordon, Lee Morgan, Hank Mobley, Art Blackey.

I would rather be wiped with scorpions than listen to "The Modern jazz Quartet" is so "polite and boring" and in my optics nothing to do with Jazz

I also like Gypsy inspired Jazz when its is spiced up with a little ... don't know what to call it - but the French singer ZAZ that arrived on the scene last year - she is wonderful and so is the more "sing a song" Berry with her song Mademoiselle - check both artists out in unplugged versions on YouTube

I Like all Classical music but I'm not into modern compositions built on deconstruction and strange sound effects - My favourite composer is British Edward Elgar though it tends to get me into a very sentimental Mood

I do have a lot of the most popular rock and pop music from the 60ties and to now but when it comes to putting it on the record player - well not very often

I generally regard the 80ties as one of the worst periods of all when it comes to music - its often hallow and synthetic and an annoyance to the ear

    My favourite records are

    Classical: Elgar Cello Concerto
    Opera: Turandot
Choir: Misa Criola - the original Philips version - not the one with Jose Carreras its to polished

Jazz: Duke Ellington and John Coltrane on Impulse
Jazz with song: Patricia Barber Café Blue
    Jazz: Coltrane Giant Steps
...... the Jazz list could just go on and on

    pop/rock
    Elton John Captain Fantastic
    David Bowie Heroes
Janis Joplin Still got them Cozmic Blues
Rolling Stones Exile on Main street

Here are some - but with my old amp the EAR 861 - I will post more when I get my Camera back from repair later in April

The EAR blew up, The Hydraulic Transcription .... with the Mørch UP 4 arm I sold ( the deck is beautiful but when it comes to punch and bass it does not even come close to the old Garrard, and the Ballari RIAA is used as back up RIAA - The two transformers from the Luxman c-120 are put in sand into Tea-cans - I could do with only one as it is stereo but I chose to use two - each parallel wound instead to give copper - and to better separate channels

    Welcome Ruben

I assume that it is your fondness of turntables and english classics that brought you to this site; and not the current sad state of affairs on Hifi4all.dk :-(

For the locals I can add that Ruben is a very active member on the TT and vintage sections of the Danish fora; For example hauling equipment from Roskilde to the vintage meets at Hald Hovedgård.
