Hi all,
I've been a bit quiet on here over the past year or so, mainly due to work pressures and also building a new house.
Thankfully, we moved in two months ago and I have a dedicated room to...
The manufacturer's website has this information:

SHELL: BRASS...
The price from Aurealis is indeed good.. about the same as buying directly from the manufacturer's website in small quantities:

Thanks for the suggestion Will! I've dropped them an email.
I might look at posting a WTB ad for one of the various speakers that contain these tweeters. If I were able to source one of the rear...
Indeed, it lacks the same quality of finish and attention to detail. My father and I have every amp from the AU-117 to AU-919 in our collection (except for the AU-819) and the difference in the...
G'day all,
I've come across a very nice pair of Mission 780 speakers, circa 2001. They look like this, albeith with a dark rosewood veneer.

Indeed, that's the one major shortcoming of the 719. The 717 and 517 both have preouts, and likewise, the 519 has preouts. I can't fathom why they left them off the 719.
I too lust after one of these suckers.
Like any old Sansui, they really need restoring to sound their best.
They have output transformers ala McIntosh.
And they are HEAVY - back-breakingly...
Yessir! There was no CA-5000.
The BA is a beast, with McIntosh-style output transformers.
FYI, the TU-217 doesn't have an illuminated face - they reserved this feature for the TU-317 :)
Wow... 12 quid... what a score for a truly iconic Kenwood! Nicely done.
Nice work! :)
Indeed, aftermarket binding posts will need to be installed on a custom mounting board. I've used acrylic/plexiglass for this exact purpose on my AU-719.
Here's the first one...
Brilliant! Glad to hear it. :)
Bugger, I completely missed this thread as I've been a bit quiet on AOS over the past few months!
How did you get on with your repairs?
The 719 is a formidable amp when operating in tip-top...
I'm a big Sansui fan, but have worked on several Yamaha restorations (including the CA-1010 which sounds generally the same as the CR-1020).
I found the Yamaha to sound quite clean, but a bit...
My favourite DAC that I've owned is my current audio-gd DAC3SE, but my favourites out of the DACs that I've heard are the Metrum Hex and the Aurialic Invicta. Both are supremely transparent and...
The LITE DAC AH is not as good as the Valab TDA1543 DACs IMHO - I prefer the sound of the latter if you're keen to go down the NOS 1543 road. The Teradak Cameleon is also quite nice.
I'm a big...
I've read that, but I wasn't certain as to whether this only applied to the lower-spec series or also the top-line Ruby series.
After a long listen and comparison session earlier in the week, the...
I've also just checked the tweeter. It is the SEAS 25TAC/GW with a tuned chamber around the rear of the tweeter to achieve a lower resonant frequency than the more commonly used 25TAF/G:

I was lucky enough to buy this lovely pair of JPW Ruby 2 speakers yesterday evening. These are ultra-rare in Australia!
Given that there's not a lot of information about them on the net, nor...
Thanks for the kind comments all. I have some detailed build/resto info on other nice vintage amps which I will post in future - eg. the Kenwood KA-8006, Yamaha CA-1010 and a treasure trove of Sansui...
Indeed, it's something that I would do if it were my own personal amp. In this case, the friend that I restored it for is happy to stick with the polyesters.
They are all fairly small value caps...
Hi all,
I've previously shared a few Sansui restos so I thought I'd post up another.
A friend wanted this AU-999 fully restored and enhanced wherever possible, along with the addition of proper...
The Bushmaster was fed with the same high quality digital front end and high quality files as all of the other DACs during my review/shootout, so my own personal perception of slight dryness...
