Er, no. I just don't have an axe to grind.
One aspect of some forums, I've found, is that, at times, some people seem to a real problem with seeing past their own nose-end.

Well, I do seem to remember reading Mr NVA saying that one of the merits of a bake off would be to encourage such a response. It wasn't a question of winning or losing; it was the process.

Surprised it took this long. I was just thinking this last night.
Accept the fact that forums attract all manner of personalities, including the petty and narrow minded - that can't see past their...
Here's a cheap one for you to try, Alex:

Hard to imagine any artist in the '60s having any input to mastering, I would have thought. As for mixing...
Originally, this was done by George Martin, of course, who at some point became known...
Is there a cheap (and worthwhile) upgrade for 78/79 devices used in an item 30 year old?
I could replace them with discrete regulator plug-in types. Having to replace 12 however, wouldn't really...
True, Adam. Can't really argue with you.
I got a decent set years (decades) ago. I lost track if they were metric or imperial. More often than not, they didn't fit whatever I wanted them for. So I...
You can get Metric & Imperial sets combined off eBay & Amazon from £5.
Handy to have.

Fair enough.
Today when I listened, I was wondering if the sense of musicality was related to the greater slew rate.

Yes. A Russian by the name of Alex. He's made numerous of classic gear and they set a standard for others to aim for. I haven't found any that match his. My favourite combination is the Sony SS-A5 La...
Firstly, my thanks to Charles for offering a couple of V5i devices to try, and apologies for not responding sooner.
The devices were tried out in the output stage of a Technics SL-P1200 CD,...
I think I might have said that! Suppose it depends on how much emphasis you place on significant.
I think there was something like 5 or 6 different versions. Don't know how the others differed.

The main board on the Broadcast version is neatly laid out and uses less components:

Yes, Martin. Both had the same fault (!). I sent a message, but it seems to have got lost. I'll send another.
Stripped and cleaned the Broadcast one and replaced the function switches as a few...
Sorry. My mistake. It's me with no room for messages.
I wouldn't like to say, Peter. I wouldn't like to say.

Might explain it then.

This is £24 and is 1000VA rating, which is quite cheap for that rating.

Have you ever tried adding the Neumann constant to a phono stage? I tried years ago, but can't remember what the result was.

In all probability, someone has removed the the muting transistors as a mod to improve sound quality.

Does the sound come from your speakers, or the CD player itself?
If it's coming from the CD player, it must have a relay muting the output, and the sound is just the mechanical sound of the relay...
It's the relay on the output operating.
I was assuming it had a relay muting the output, but it appears to have transistors.

No Oliver. Didn't touch a nerve. I just read the thread last night and thought a bit of a strange way to conclude. Personally, doesn't bother me in the least.
Sorry if my humour was perceived as...
Sorry Oliver. But I still don't get it. You compare 7 capacitors and come up with a "winner", but don't wish to identity it. Simple question: Why? What do you think revealing it's identity will...
