If that means that the DD should equal the idler in its areas of strengths, I wonder if that’s even possible.

Very interesting!!! :)
It's magic, I tell ya. Witchcraft. Hocus-Pockey..., or some such thing :steam:
I use a Lenco mat on my TD125. Deep-bass OK, and midbass especially tight and realistically 'punchy' (with the kickdrum in particular). Might work on a 160.
Another vote against those particular Shures.
Great to hear it works OK, so far. Brilliant little device, apparently.

But those are the Classics. Ha, ha! My Gosh man, you had me going there for a while. I distinctly said that the Classics are scarcely affected by the Loudness-War. No wonder you don’t see a...
Fascinating that you'd express such a view even in the face of ample evidence of the Loudness-War and the effect it has on popular music in digital media, with even mastering engineers articulating...

Great explanation there, and those factors certainly do come into play.
However, the root cause is more sinister. Also, the practice of seeking to...

"Are expensive phono preamps worth it?"
In many cases, yes, I'm sure.
But perhaps a bit of comparative listening is prudent. I was once shocked to find that a DJ mixer (and the phono-stage in...
In case you again lean toward a 'warmer' sounding cart, perhaps you may want to consider a Grado Platinum or Sonata.
I’d sell the 125/SME (103 too) and keep the V15III to use with the 125/Rega while I search for a more dynamic cart like a top-level A-T mm.
Interesting thread. Never thought that the Orbe/Gyro would have been so prone to wobble. Even more so than a Linn, apparently. One would have thought the Orbe's massive platter would have helped to...
Been looking for a comparison like this for a long time. Thanks!
Reassuring to know that everything you found is pretty-much what I’d also found – with both my Linn and Thorens 125, compared to my...
Perhaps the Inspire folks are on to something. The one review I'd seen seemed quite encouraging to me - for a standard unit.
Doubtless, the likes of a Nantais modded Lenco would be very special...
Lenco: Still the best bang for the buck though! :)
Lenco arms are oft replaced with arms which are no better except in looks. I found my Ittok only slightly better with MMs.
Just sayin' :)

Thanks for the welcome, Grant.

Hi Martin,
Naw! Nothing special, really.
Perhaps an unfortunate choice of words. In fact, I don’t doubt that most audiophiles would advocate burning at the stake as punishment for some of the...
:)"Ha. I don't like the Ittok either."
Au contraire!
I actually loved my Ittok. Geoff, I don’t doubt it if you say it was awful with a Decca. But I used mine over many years with Grado’s Sonata...
