Do you really need a watch to tell you which the day of the week it is?

You are, of course, entitled to your opinions Barry but it's the rather superior, acerbic, patronising way you express them that irks me.
It's occurred a few times on this thread & elsewhere. I appreciate you seem to have a rather direct, no nonsense approach to things but this does come across as plain rudeness on occasions when this is probably not what you intend.
That Orient watch is very nice, stunning design and build looks good.
Roy,
What's the dimensions of the square Orient' s case?
Does it wear similar to the Monaco on the wrist, or is it more dress watch proportions?
Thanks.
Not a great deal in it, Orient’s a touch narrower.

Thanks,
perfect answer. :)
Might pick an Orient up if I can find one.
I like the Monaco.
& that’s the one I kept on in the end

My brother came for a visit yesterday and bought a few old family things to put with all the other items I keep safe. One thing was our grandfather's wristwatch. It's very bruised and battered and not running. My brother did take it to his watch expert to see if it could be resurrected but he said it's beyond repair and some parts would have to be hand made plus the dial might not be able to be cleaned. So it will remain a piece of family history. It's probably around 100 years old and been in at least one war. Not sure it's in it's original box but it certainly has lived in it a long time.
I really like this thread and very much admire the watches, for me the plainer the better but that's just me lol. I guess what I'm trying to say is this beaten up old relic of a watch means more to me than all the posh ones I've ever had. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...852aadc166.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...06d41003c1.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...af365ef906.jpg

Bet that could tell some tales Ian.
My Dad’s old ‘Zenta’ is still going strong

I can understand that completely, my dad owned a particularly ordinary but perfectly good Jeep watch, probably no more than £40-50. But it's the first thing I'd save out of everything I own. My mum and I were with dad when he passed away, I took it off his wrist and gave it to my mum, she held it for a moment and gave it back to me and told me dad would want me to have it. I can't even begin to express how much I care about that watch.
Also got Dad’s Rotary (he barely wore this much preferring his old automatic)

A bit small & subtle for my taste Barry but I’ve recently put a new battery in it just to keep it going.
At the other end of the spectrum (almost literally!) this arrived from the US today.

You do like your diver's watches. ;)
Now to lower the tone. Four Budweiser branded promotional quartz watches I bought at a boot sale about twenty years ago, they cost me ten quid for the four! The one far right died from leaking battery contamination. These keep very good time, the three to the left had new batteries a month or two back and are still as spot on as needs be. I normally used to reset them once a year, but no longer wear a watch.

Arrived yesterday

It's a Brooks Bentley (no, I'd never heard of them before either). Popped up on ebay at a fair price for a nice looking watch with, what looks like, a decent automatic movement.
Yes, the Daytona's still on the radar but I've got a couple of holidays to pay for so I'll have to wait till my finances recover a little first. I'm only a poor old pensioner you know!
I’ve posted this one before but a good watch is worth repeating

I’m tempted to build myself a custom Seiko.
Thats gorgeous.
The green and gold play well together and really like the shape of the indices.
Every time I look at this thread it costs me money!
Always been taken by the idea of the historical aspect of watches, and currently the idea of the watch of WW2 Italian frogmen, (Panerei) with my car (and coffee maker!) I have an Italian thing going on atm.
Thinking one of those may be my next watch purchase.
Orient make some nice pieces, this one’s just caught my eye but I’m on a self imposed budget for the next couple of months, holiday coming up.

I own a proper Seiko ladies diver watch which is pretty rare.. along with some Pulsar's etc
However the only watch I now wear is the Apple S4...
I'll just leave all this tech to the youngsters.
Keep getting told off because I haven't paired my phone with my car.. what?
