I agree, and as we will be this weekend, I'll be getting a whole chicken for the Sunday roast from the village farm shop, but in the week I generally cook with chicken breasts twice a week, so it would be both time consuming and likely a lot of waste to buy whole birds. Looks like there's a country butcher a couple of villages away, and I have heard good things about them so will check out what they do. But definitely an early New Year's resolution that I am only buying locally sourced and properly free range meat and poultry from now on!
