I agree, and as we will be this weekend, I'll be getting a whole chicken for the Sunday roast from the village farm shop, but in the week I generally cook with chicken breasts twice a week, so it would be both time consuming and likely a lot of waste to buy whole birds. Looks like there's a country butcher a couple of villages away, and I have heard good things about them so will check out what they do. But definitely an early New Year's resolution that I am only buying locally sourced and properly free range meat and poultry from now on!

Del wouldn't cook anything but free-range chickens [she's really big on animal welfare], and so I haven't eaten any battery-farmed poultry for nearly 30 years! Diito with eggs.

Well, I obviously knew about general conditions and them being raised in sheds, but I'd never seen anything about the chicks, and how they are so badly handled/discarded. Poor little buggers.

Glad I'm having fish tonight (please don't tell me how badly prawns are treated! :eek: )

They get interfered with in sheds by very very bad men, don't you know?:eyebrows:

i try and use either free range or preferably free to roam farmyard ones although they are dear. but i wont slit my wrists if i end up with a battery one tbh. as long as its british

Some leftover stew and a couple of potatoes turned into chips

no, but they may not have a free ranger so i might have to if i want a bird.. as for the french;) they eat frogs legs ffs:D

Hehehe.... I defo wouldn't buy anything else but free-range. I'd do without first, Never had a problem finding any, though:)
