I love smoked haddock. When I was a child "the yellow fish", as I called it at the time, was the only fish I would eat. My piscatorial tastes have broadened since then. :)
It was my partner who did the cooking; so I don't know the exact details. But onions and tomatoes were in the mix, as well as garlic, ginger, English mustard and Worcester sauce. It was 'wetter' than the usual recipe, which is why we had them on rice.
I'm not that keen on kidneys; I prefer liver - but one should try to eat offal once a month or so.
dont eat offal tbh. occasional bit of kidney in a steak pie. used to like haggis, but i had a bad one once and now it turns my stomach lol.. love white pudding in fry up or mixed with a mince a tatties, and a bit of black too in a fry up.
so, the mustard and ginger would be the devilled bit.
I'm not sure exactly what 'white pudding' is. Black pudding is just blood, fat and 'sawdust' (Oops, sorry: oats) as far as I can tell! I don't like it.
To be perfectly honest, I don't know what is meant by 'devilled'. Is it a Victorian way of saying "spiced up"?Quote:

white pudding is similar to a mealie pudding(which mine was closer to) or even skirlie.. white is often bound with egg so it holds its shape whereas mealie would just be water; its also similar to black minus blood i guess. mostly oatmeal, fat, onions, spices etc... down cornwall way they would be called Hog's or Groats pudding.its a scots/irish dish now. most of england probably dont get them
