It was actually quite good (if you accepted that it was chunky veg soup not minestrone) but the star of the show was definitely the beer, very much a cut above Peroni.Quote:

Bella Italia was convenient as we'd been to the TUI shop to sort out some bits with an upcoming holiday, the food's ok & we get 2 for 1 on mains & starters with a 'Taste' card.
Our favoured Italian (Mare Blu in Brentwood) closed down & is now yet another curry house.
We'll use this one again in the future, the owner, Bertie, is quite a character. His missus looks after the wine & his daughter is one of the servers. He will go to great lengths to explain all his dishes.

Ah, now that's much more like it, and what constitutes as an Italian restaurant, rather than a 'plastic' version of such:)
Each to his or her own mate, and I understand why you went to Bella Italia, but '2 for 1' deals, etc, simply don't interest me at all, unless the quality of the food served is of a high standard, which that "minestrone" certainly wasn't... Our golden rule for eating out, is that if the food served isn't as good as or better than we can make at home, then we stay at home!;)

I use the same. Also Cirio tomatoes, and for risotto rice, well, it has to be Gallo Carnaroli. There’s something very relaxing about making a proper risotto. Process and patience, with proper ingredients, over raw skill.Quote:
