Best with the Stornaway tho.. its the gold standard.

Good stuff... For lunch today, just a simple plate of spaghetti with olive oil, fresh parsley, garlic and chilli, then sauce mopped up with some crusty bread, and accompanied by a green salad, using lettuce from our garden:

The latter is what is mostly used by Italians to season and 'dress' salads [rock salt, freshly ground black pepper, best quality extra-virgin olive oil and proper red or white wine vinegar], not bloody balsamic vinegar, as trendy Italian restaurants here would often have you believe!:doh:

Bit heavy for me, even when done properly *without cream*! I prefer lighter, fresher sauces. Remember that aside from, say, as a light lunch, traditionally Italians have a small portion of pasta as a STARTER, before a meat course, so you don't want anything too filling.
It's only in the UK that pasta is seen as a main course, catered of course for by so-called Italian restaurants here. Wee tip: if you want to know whether an Italian restaurant here is authentic, you'll only see pasta dishes listed as a starter, and pizzas will be conspicuous by their absence!;)
