That Soda bread looks good. Any chance of the recipe ?
I am cooking Chinese Braised Red pork with steamed rice and stir fried Pak Choi with Garlic. Smells good but have another 30 minutes to tasting.
sure dave.. Not much to soda bread bar quickness. about 9oz of soft plain flour, teaspoon of salt and one of sugar. 8 foz of soured milk(make by adding a dollop of leon juice to cold milk in a jug and put in fridge for 10 mins) or you can use buttermilk if feeling rich. and about 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder...I use double action stuff from usa.. get it on amazon. Clabber Girl or Argo, but you can use our stuff too just you have to be very quick and make sure your milk has gone acid. double action also reacts with heat so guaranteed.
Bring it all together quickly with a big spoon in a bowl. then tip out onto floured bowl. sprinkle a bit of flour over it and your hands and very quickly turn it into a ball. (as your doing this have a baking sheet or tin in a hottest possible oven.)
Once in a ball and holding together nicely cut a scorethrough top and pop it on the sheet or tin and back in hot oven for 10 ins, then reduce heat to about gas 7 for 10 mins then gas 5 for 20 mins.. thats it really.. if you want is with soething in just put chives or whatever in when mixing.. or a bit more sugar if you want it a bit sweeter.
Easiest bread around...it doesnt rise as much as bread but its more of a near cake bread really. great with soup or with butter on and heated in micro, or with jam id a sweet one.. nice in crusty and when its a tad older can be toasted
Your steak and chips looks great, Grant! :respect:
Hope you enjoyed it :)
Marco.
Yeah. Mine's doing at the moment.
What Tesco describe as a 'chicken pie', basically a cheap puff pastry shell with slime and bits inside :). Plus baked baby potato croquettes, brussel sprouts, fried mushrooms and gravy.
