Yeah, Penderyn is a nice drop. Most original Welsh produce is good quality:)
Plus, if you've got lots of mountains and pure water, containing the right minerals, you've got a fighting chance of making good whisky, which is why the Scots, Irish and Welsh get it right;)
Marco.
It was a choice between this and the Lasanta at £40 (also on offer) but I fancied something lighter in contrast to the Glengoyne 18 for a change so I went for the frugal but adventurous option.
I'm glad I did, it's going down a treat.
That's two for two! [emoji4]

Auchentoshen American Wood is £20 on Amazon currently; worth buying in at that price. It's an easy drinker and the only triple-distilled scotch too ;)
Sunday reading! Picked up in a second-hand bookshop by my other half for princely sum of £1:49.
It’s actually really good reading and is doing a good job on the education front for a noob like me.

Had a few nice pints of Titanic Iceberg and Plum Porter over the weekend; very nice beers indeed :D
Always been a huge fan of the plum porter; it's the right time of year for it too ;)
I like Titanic as well, White Star is another good beer from them. :)
New additions! [emoji4]

Quinta Ruban is one of my favs....or was lol
We've been using Virgin Wines recently for some of our wine purchases, as the quality is excellent (selections are solely from selected small producers), and for the quality on offer, prices are competitive. So I've just ordered the following mixed case of reds and whites, which along with the stock of wines we currently have (around 95 bottles), should keep us going over the festive period!:eyebrows::drunk:

I'll be reviewing each wine, with an appropriate food accompaniment, in due course. I'd highly recommend Virgin Wines for both the quality of their products and superb (very friendly and efficient) service!
Marco.
Sound good, Marco, but have you tried the new Tempranillo from Lidl? I reckon it could be just your thing - see here:

Sixth reviewed bottle down... :D
Heh-heh... Yeah, I saw it the other day when I was in. I'm on 25% commission, for every bottle sold, don't you know?:eyebrows:
In all seriousness though, some of those wines will be rather good!
Marco.
I don’t doubt it - some of their wines are superb. In particular they do a delicious Carmenere which is a ‘must buy’ whenever they have any in stock.
Better with water [emoji23]
Very nice, drinkable Cabernet Sauvignon from Lindemans.
On of the nicest wines I've had in a while regardless of price, good enough to drink on its own.

Which three would you chose from this list, and why?
1. Talisker Port Ruighe
2. BUNNAHABHAIN Stiùireadair
3. BALBLAIR 2005
4. Benromach Organic
5. GLENMORANGIE QUINTA RUBAN
6. THE DALMORE PORT WOOD
The reason I ask I that there is a group buy being held at the cooperative at work, and the prices are good.
I don't know any of them, so I am looking for recommendations.
My current stash can be seen here - https://theartofsound.net/forum/show...42#post1012642
I want something to compliment the Islays.
Quinn Ruben is excellent. Not tried the dalmore port but might be nice
7. Jura 7 wood
I am tempted by 5, 6 & 7 at the moment, but fancy trying no.2 as well.
Just finished a Quinta Ruban, was lovely.

2. BUNNAHABHAIN Stiùireadair always a good choice
My only concern is it may be a bit young and fiery...
all the ones listed are very different, that's the fun with Malt.
I have a few Islays, so I would prefer something different, but I really like the Toiteach. The Stiùireadair gets mixed reviews, so leave me a little unsure.

I don’t really have anywhere to store that many bottles currently, so probably only have a have a few in the house at any one time. As you say it’s for drinking not for looking at.
I think it has got to be the Balblair, Glenmorangie and Dalmore.
It is a shame it is not a 16 YO Jura, but hey...
As for the "international" whiskys, it is a shame I don't know more about them.
Tullybardine burgundy is excellent too. Ive had several bottles of that in past
There is a lot of good whisky there.
I am limiting myself to what I buy. I get some vouchers from the cooperative at work as a Christmas present, so I am trying to keep within the limit of the vouchers.
I need to build up my stock before Brexit happens...
Really enjoying this Old Pulteney 12
So much going on, and changing almost by the minute. It’s a world of entertainment even to my newbie nose and palette.

I read that this 17 was something special and given that I loved the 12, I thought I’d better give it a go before it disappears completely.
I wont embarrass my newbie-self trying to describe its characteristics, you can Google them easily enough.
All I will say is “boy, oh boy, I love this one!”
Found myself cradling this one for as long as I could, it gives as much pleasure to the nose as it does to the taste and just keeps getting better and better.
Love it so much I’ve had to order another to ensure I have a Christmas treat. [emoji4]

had a few pulteneys.. all been good.. got a friend who lives near
I have always wanted to try the 17YO, but it is a bit expensive over here.
Looks interesting, Tony. Is it peaty - smooth or fiery? What type of casks was it distilled in? If it's too peaty, it unfortunately won't be my thing. If you could describe the taste, that would be useful:)
Marco.
Not peaty at all. Bourbon & oloroso casks I believe.
Smooth as......[emoji4]
I believe it is right up your street Marco.
Quite fruity, peaches and kiwi according to the distillery but also butterscotch and vanilla in there.
Taste just develops in the glass, teaspoon of water and about 10 minutes sitting really brings out the flavours.

Just a heads up for red wine lovers... Just enjoyed this with tonight's dinner (some grilled lamb cutlets), and it's without doubt the nicest Greek red wine I've ever had; in fact is up there with some of the nicest wines I've had, period!
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/Cwl9BI.jpg
Made from Aghiorghitiko grapes, indigenous to Greece, it however, for all intents and purposes, tastes like a good Médoc, such are the deep, rich earthy flavours it imparts on the palate, but with a hint of spice, juicy blackcurrant and rich damson fruits, exhibiting good 'length' and acidity, which makes it an ideal partner for all red meats and mature cheeses.
Honestly, it's a stonker! Plus, at a round a tenner a bottle, superb value for this type of quality, which had it come from the Bordeaux region of France, would've cost at least twice that amount. Why not treat yourself to some over the festive period!
Details here: https://www.skouras.gr/wines/reds/saint-george-nemea/
I got it from Tanners in Chester, but can also be ordered online here: https://www.houseofwine.gr/how/intl/...rce=vivino-ppc
Marco.
Latest Christmas addition from my son...smooth and eminently quaffable

That reminded me of Bill Murray's part in 'Lost in Translation'.
I recently bought the Dalmore Port Wood reserve, Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban and the Balblair 2005, first release.
Initial impressions are that the Dalmore is quite smooth, and very drinkable. The Balblair seems to have an okay/vanilla taste to it initially, with a hint of spice towards the end. It’s pretty good. I have yet to open the Glenmorangie.
I also tried a 12 year old Jura over the holidays, and that is another I am thinking of getting. That or the 18 year old....
I think the minimum age of whisky I will buy from now on, is 12 years. Anything younger seems a bit on the firey side, almost untamed.
Currently enjoying a ‘themed’ birthday. They know me so well. [emoji4][emoji106]
