Yeah, thought the wooden cask would make it nice as a pressy - he likes that kind of thing!:D
Marco.
Have you tried the Aberfeldy 16, btw: https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskie...ar-old-whisky/
I was thinking of getting some for myself, as it's supposed to be a nice sherry hit, which is my thang. Can't stand smoky or peaty cack. I know you're a fan of the 10, or is it 12-year old?
Marco.
This also looks interesting: https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskie...ar-old-whisky/
Have you had it?
Marco.
the 12 is ok, nowt special.. the 16 is very nice, although around same price range i'd go for the glenallachie 15.... its bloody nice and more sherry than aberfeldy.

Actually ending the night with one now.
Glenallachie 15
Marvellous. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e9b3759cbf.jpg
H'okay-dokes:thumbsup:
Marco.
I just found out Fettercarin is a Whyte & Mcackay product , same a Jura and the Dalmore .
Not a name very well known in the U.S.
It is indeed. One if the oldest too and AFAIK the only one to use irrigator rings on the still neck. This cools the column and causes the spirit to be lighter and purer.
Can't do this tonight, it's just not the night for for a whiskey best paired with a Limburger cheese and onion on burnt rye sandwich.
I don't think I am an Islay peat bomb kinda guy. It smells a little like stinky feet.
So I decided to have a Glengrant 15 instead.
Same here - I've never liked them, but only until quite recently, mostly from reading your posts on the subject, I didn't really know how to avoid those types of whiskies:)
It's a personal taste thing, though. In general, I'm not a fan of smoked flavours, unless it's subtle. That includes meats or cheeses.
Marco.
I was given 3 bottles of Bells last week, not my cuppa tea but I hadn't anything else to drink last night, I feel like I've been chewing a crap cigar:rolleyes:
Tomatin 12 yr old.. was on offer the other day so grabbed a bottle.
some darker fruits, plenty spice, but controlled...apples also followed i think a little orange.. good longish finish.
Rather good for the money. I do like Tomatin

A splash of water brings out its bourbon cask character... very nice
A darn nice drink , I love the Tomataian 12 ,got a bottle going here too.
Got another darn nice bottle at Costco today, I have a friend who drinks Cognac XO and stopped paying way north of $130.00 to $200.00 dollars for special bottles for this $45.00 bottle .
If you have a Costco run get a bottle it is really good.
No shortage of fruit, dark chocolate, honey, nuts vanilla,( it actually tastes like the tasting notes).
It is far better than the price would suggest.
Barrel age 12 to 21 years.
If you have access to a bottle run ,get it,enjoy it. Very long finish, love you long time! bottle.
Got a nice colour Jeff, as does this A'bunadh from Aberlour.. Their sherry monster.

Each batch of this whisky is blended from barrels ranging from 5 to 25 years old. The distillery cite the story during distillery tours that when the second pair of stills were put in during 1975, a time capsule was discovered behind the name plate, containing an 1898 newspaper about the distillery fire wrapped around an 1898 bottle of Aberlour. The workmen who discovered the bottle polished off four fifths of the bottle during their lunch break, but the remains of the bottle went off to the laboratories in Keith, Moray, and were analysed. A'bunadh is an attempt to recreate this single malt.
so the story goes..

A small top-up for the forthcoming festive period (particularly some nice Italian wines you don't see often):

I noticed a bottle of Penderyn - a bit of a curiosity which I've not tried before - Welsh whisky - in the local Tescos yesterday. The price was reduced to £22 for shoppers showing a Tesco loyalty card.
I have heard good things about this, though it doesn't originate from the country in which I now live.
Tomatin 18 sherry loaded dream.

Slight change on shelf. A nice bottle of Dalmore port wood. Got a free glass with this with lid. Was from Whisky World as they had let me down on a delivery so refunded me my postage and gave me a credit note too, so picked this up at a nice price,

borrow an onliner... https://cdn2.masterofmalt.com/whiski...sky.jpg?ss=2.0
deanston's 18 yr old.. this is fabulous stuff.. one you all should have in your rotation.. nectar
Well, I kept picking up this bottle of Dalmore 12 and putting it back for something else.
I just don't like their use of excessive caramel coloring, chill filtering and low 40% ABV. this just doesn't reflect top quality in my mind.
I saw this gift pack included 2 nice copita glasses so at $65.00 it came home with me.
It is a really good tasting 12 year old scotch, I like it. It is not as tame as some 12 year old bottles I've had so 40% makes sense for this bottle.
A drop of water and a good swirl around the glass is strongly recommended.
I love the glasses and the whiskey is good too.
Yeah they use e150a AFAIK, which is only one allowed here. It's tasteless tho. Chill filtering is usual under 46.3%.
