It really was exceptional value at £23 a head, because what we didn't realise were included were several whiskies, toasting the haggis and the 'laddies and lassies', with humorous speeches, etc, plus the "small" plate of cheese and oatcakes to finish turned out to be a very BIG one, with numerous different kinds, including a WHOLE baked camembert per table!:eek:
And the oatcakes were made by one of the locals, as was the clootie dumpling, which was fabulous. It seems the pub has a policy of local residents, who are good cooks, supplying certain dishes to the pub, which is a great idea and facilitates a strong community spirit:)
All in all, a fab night was had, meeting the locals and having a good chinwag, which shows that proper, family-run village pubs still exist today - and what a welcome change they make in comparison with the soulless chains you get now all over the place!:cool:

Looks like a fabulous Burns Supper. Not a big haggis fan, but would have been happy with the cheeseboard! (And Scotch! :eyebrows:) )
Did you know that a 2003 survey of American tourists in Scotland revealed that a third of them thought haggis was an actual animal! :lol:
