Don't know if to post here or the cheese recommendation thread. Sell this wine in my shop made from fermented whey tastes like sweet wine with a cheesy finish real weird shit. Sells well though info here LINK. The guy who makes it also makes some of the best cheese you can get in the UK.
On the way back from the boozer Vinto Tinto 12% ABV. 3 for atenner at the Spar
It may not be wine wine, but try Vodka and Vimto;)

Tesco currently have this very nice Bordeaux half-price in-store (£6 from £12) or slightly cheaper through their online Wine Club
Chateau Grand-Jour Bordeaux Rouge
Will be having one with the Sunday lunch later!
Nice one, Alex - I'll look out for that one!
Marco.
Glad you enjoyed it Barry.
This week's Tesco recommendation:
Berberana Rioja Reserva Etiqueta Negra Currently on 3 for 2 - so normally £6.99 a bottle it works out at £4.66 - I guarantee you will not find a better Rioja at that price!
Trust me, even at £6.99 this is a very good Rioja, especially if you like oak and vanilla flavours - yep, a bargain - enjoy!
Wine and Real Ale Recommendations ???
Well I recommend you don't try to by wine or real ale at Asda!!!!
Yahoo news, just now
English teacher Amanda Ackroyd was trying to buy a couple of bottles of wine and cider when checkout staff asked her young partner and 17-year-old son for ID.
As neither was able to prove their age, Ms Ackroyd was told she couldn't purchase the alcohol because she "couldn't guarantee she wasn't going to pass the alcohol on to someone under age".
"It was very embarassing," she said. "Even if my son had ID on him, he's only 17, so they wouldn't have served me anyway.
"Am I not supposed to take my son shopping with me any more?"
Ms Ackroyd added that she thought the chain's approach did not make sense.
"If I'd been buying crates and crates of beer, I could understand, but the amount and type of alcohol I was buying was clearly not for giving to someone who was under age," she said.
An Asda spokeswoman has since defended the supermarket chain's 'Challenge 25' policy, which requires staff to ask to see the ID of anyone who looks under 25.
"Although it seems mad, we don't blame our colleagues for being over-cautious," the spokeswoman told Sky News Online.
"We support them in making the right decision using a common sense approach."
After the incident at the Newton Abbot store in Devon, Ms Ackroyd abandoned her shopping and did it at a store that did not hesitate to sell her wine.
"I won't be returning to Asda again," she said.
I have just slurped a couple of glasses of Alex's latest recommendation from Tesco:
http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/Image...s=633657151280
The 2005 Reserva Berberana 'Etiqueta Negra'.
The 'three for two' offer makes it the bargain of the year (£4.66 a bottle). It really is good. Don't hesitate - go out and get three bottles tomorrow!
Good call Alex. Thanks
Regards
Glad you approve Barry! Off to get one breathing, I think - well, Thursday's nearly the weekend!? ;)
I was so impressed by this Rioja (and the staggering value for money), that today I bought three more bottles.
Regards
Must try some of this, chaps! I'm doing some shopping later so will pop into Tescos :)
Marco.
Just drunk half a bottle of this:
http://www.caves-direct.com/var/docs...egrave_270.jpg
A 2004 Château Belgrave Haut-Médoc. Château bottled. Not cheap at ~£19 a bottle, but an absolute delight. Bought from my local Co-op (of all places!)
Regards
My local Tesco have discontinued the ‘3 for 2’ offer on the Rioja Berberana, Reserva 2005. Damn! - I only managed to get 12 bottles at that price.
Instead I thought I might give this a try:
http://www.majestic-wine.co.uk/Asset.../3/14395_p.jpg
Rioja Torre Aldea, Reserva 2005. (The image is of the 2001; the best image that I could find. The 2005 vintage has a parchment-cream coloured label.)
“…Nutty aroma with vanilla and leather. Potent at first but pleasant and persistent on the finish ……”
At the moment it’s half price at £4.99 a bottle. I have just tried a couple of glasses and can thoroughly recommend it. Alex, this is my way of thanking you for your excellent recommendations by returning the favour.
Regards
Sounds right up my street!
I'm sending the butler out straight away, thanks Barry! (I've only got 1 Berberana left, so will need "something for the weekend!" ;))
PS - Co-ops are suprisingly good for some undiscovered gems, not just "Le Piat D'or" and "Blue Nun" :)
Bastards! I'm on 'Lent' at the moment, so have given up drinking all forms of alcohol for SIX WEEKS :unfair: :violin:
:door:
Marco.
Not a good time to tell you about a good Bordeuaux offer at Sainsbury's then? :(
Roc de Lussac - 2007 Lussac St Emilion - half price at £6.99 from £13.99 - very worth it at that money!
http://www.cellartracker.com/labels/117944.jpg
Well i'm off down the boozer, taste the local falling down watter aafter a hard week at work.
Have fun, look forward to your drunken ramblings later on! ;)
You can give up what you want, or simply do good deeds instead, such as going to church every morning, or freeing one of the 'victims' inside my dungeon.... :eyebrows:
Nice fresh, Welsh WATER - and you'll like it, my boy! ;)Quote:
More to the point, and from a personal point of view, what will you be offering me to drink when I see you next month? :eyebrows:
Marco.
It's not quite that radical Andre - normal Catholics and C of E observe Lent. Not me, I'm lapsed, I'm afraid.
Indeed - I am one of the former, so wish me luck! :mental:
Marco.
Sorted, supped the last barrel & smashed the glasses. be ok now.
Tesco have this on offer at the moment; half price at £4.99 a bottle:
http://www.cellartracker.com/labels/101485.jpg
Castello San Lorenzo Rioja Reserva 2004.
Tempranillo, mazuelo and graciana grapes.
"Richly flavoured and spicy, combining ripe plum and dried fruit characters with cinnamon and vanilla".
If you feel the 2004 is too young, buy a few bottles and lay them down (if only for a fortnight Marco ;)). Or buy the 2001 at £14.99, also available in Tesco.
A votre santé
Don't they have any at £2.99 Barry? Those three for a tenner at the Co-Op are alwright
Ah! If you had wanted a 'three for a tenner', then Tesco were making such an offer over the Mother's Day period on their 'Mason de Michael' - a good mid week slurp.
Regards
(Appreciate your response to my comment concerning your avatar, but I prefer the original silver-faced android cops you used to use. Either that, or "the hookah-smoking caterpillar"!)
Today i had a couple of pints of Batemans hooker ' lovely beer ' recommend
My local supermarket, formerly Somerfield now a Co-op (and the worse for it) have on offer a 10yr single malt Aberlour at £16.66 for the usual 70cl bottle. The usual sale price is ~£25.
http://www.bakersandlarners.co.uk/im...erlour-lge.jpg
This is my usual whisky, when I'm not drinking Laphroaig or Lagavulin; my favourites.
Regards
Just ordered a case of this:
http://www.bawineclub.co.uk/images/products/62055b.jpg
2007 Château Capbern Gasqueton, Sainte- Estèphe.
"Delicate violet aromas belie a wealth of blackcurrent richness typical of Cabernet lead clarets of Saint- Estèphe - with added elegance and sophistication found in all the wines associated with Château Calon-Ségur." (Château Calon-Ségur run Château Capbern Gasquiton.)
Said to be "The Lafite of Sainte-Estèphe", Laithwaites are offering this at £13 a bottle for a minimum of 6 bottles. Normally it would cost £18 a bottle.
A bottle of Château Calon-Ségur, Sainte- Estèphe, would set you back ~£35!
Regards
Very good buy, Barry. A great Medoc, indeed. Used to be part of the Calon-Ségur vines.
You shouldn't open it before a couple of years, at least, in my opinion.
My daily guzzle: First Cape Limited Release Merlot 2009 Western Cape, South Africa £6.99 at a supermarket near you. No messing with sodding corks :ner:
It's not too young, a 2009 Merlot ?
I tasted a few (a dozen) "European" assemblages (Merlot, Cabernet, Pinot) last year when I was in South Africa but I found nothing special. Others did like them (or were they too polite ?)
To my taste, I prefer Pinotage, for instance. Clearly a matter of taste.
I'm sure Alex is already aware of this, but with the Tesco price reduced from £10 to £6, I ought to bring it to your attention.
http://img.tesco.com/wine/UIAssets/p...el_126x150.jpg
2007 Médoc Seigneur D'Albret
60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot.
"... This Médoc has a good colour with blackcurrent aromas and lasting fruit flavours."
It is not château bottled, but at this price it doesn't matter.
Shall be enjoying this tonight with lamb's liver, streaky bacon, roasted shallots and new potatoes, carrots, fine beans, sugarsnap peas and brocolli.
Decadent? Don't care - I'm in celebratory mood.
Regards
PS Marco, when are we going to hear of your views of the 2005 Château Castelbruck Margeaux, or the 2007 Cuvée du Vatican Châteauneuf-du-Pape? You must have sampled one or both by now.
PPS Co-op are still offering Aberlour at £16.99 a bottle.
