Judas Priest "Sad Wings Of Destiny" on CD.
Although I like a racket as much as the next bloke, so much modern metal is performed / arranged / produced with such a density of sound that few sounds stand out in spite of all the bluster. I don't just mean dynamic compression, more that there's no room for light and shade in the tracks because everything is packed tight. By comparison the sheer amount of space between the instruments in "SWOD" means that there's some mood and drama, and when there's a peak it really does peak.
