Looking good mate :)
How's the system sounding today ?
Nice one mate . If you need any more help you know where to get me :)
Gary and I were over at Alis place today . His R2R sounds absolutely stunning . Same speaker cable as you too :D
Sure, thanks. Next cable change will be the rpi one I think. reckon it will sweeten up too a tad. and the TT phono cable would be a good one too. trouble is its in use... dunno how easy the plug is to redo... must ask Barry I think
R to R's can sound incredible
Is it phono to phono ? What length again ?
Having had Marco and Snapper up and a sesh, and another 2 of late myself, I think I am going to stick with what I have, bar the odd cable( I know Ive kinda said that before lol) on the main system. I dont see how I can better it on my budget. Ive still got a new set of speakers to make, but doubt they will change much. The ProArt amp is good enough for me I think.
Speaker cable seems sorted too as it equalled some top stuff, again for my system. RPI, is, for a streamer, as good as I need too. cd's through the buffer as good to, and the TT finally sounds damned good now, with the shure and the cable change.
If anything changes I shall report.
Oh and Brian; :youtheman: for your cables mate
Result, nice one Grant. :)
I really enjoyed listening to your system, Grant. It's very musical sounding and communicative, and not lacking in any major areas. Loved the Telefunkens! Now *those* are what I'd call speakers that are properly voiced to play music, as opposed to reproducing 'hi-fi pyrotechnics' for geeky-arsed audiophiles... They don't make 'em like they used to ;)
I was very impressed with your JBE turntable. The combination of the SME 3009 and Shure M55E is spot on, and marries very well with your phono stage. If I were you, I'd leave well alone, as it just 'works'! :)
Whilst I enjoyed the steaming side of your set up, I did feel that your T/T was considerably ahead of it sonically and musically, but in my experience that's what happens when you've got a well-sorted vinyl set-up. Therefore, if you were going to effect any upgrades to your system, then that's the area I'd be concentrating on.
Oh, and at some point I think you owe it to yourself to try a nice little valve amp with those Telefunkens, perhaps something EL84-based, as I think that would work superbly well, and after all, glowing bottles are what the Teles would've been designed to be used with!
Anyway, enjoy yer choons , mate - you've got a nice little system there
Marco.
