the lignum vitae blanks turned up today so straight to the wood turners to be turned down to 12mm,when i get them back i'll put a 12x0.5mm thread on them and see how 1 fairs as a thrust pad :)

so the lignum vitae dowls were turned down to 12mm,i collected them yesterday and today i made a few new thrust pads.
first job was to put the oilites back in the bearing housing, they had been stored in oil until ready to go back in.
on to the thrust pads.
first the thread was cut, 12 x 0.5mm.

then i carefully used a router to create the rasied part that goes inside the bottom bearing.

as i was assembling the bearings in the housing i wondered if there was more to sony designing the thrust pad this way other than location, normaly tt thrust pads just sit in the bottom of the bearing housing. why did sony go to this much trouble?
the complex shape is also iintriguing, what i do know is that this design allows me to raise or lower the height of the spindle running in the bearings,i will know more when the unit is put back in the housing.
the good news is that all my efforts have been rewarded with a totally silent motor unit, there is no noise what so ever! phew
Great Work !
