Is that miserable butters Anto? :D
I Like the 3 day christmas period , Period :christmas:
Well I go into the John Lewis ad determined to hate it..... and....... damn them to hell, I really like it again :) Even though it was an Elbow cover version I dug out my Abbey Road disc and put it on.
Ive done too many Christmasses now and generally hate what its become and indeed what it was always about. I hate the christmas card thing and I hate the present giving and general forced fun. I hate that everybody is expected to gather together on the day...Bah humbug..... I think Scrooge was the good guy :D
I try and get something out of the art surrounding the event. For example Im mighty glad Mahalia Jackson sang Silent Night :)
I’m a marketer, so I have already been dreading Xmas since school went back in September. [emoji6]
I do find it interesting to be annually labelled a miserable bugger, Scrooge, tight wad or just odd because I have no interest in Christmas. I'm not religious either and it's a religious festival right?
I live by myself, both my parents are gone as are my uncles and aunts and I have no children - my brother lives in India and I see him at funerals these days. I don't buy into materialism or fall prey to marketing or salesmen and am quite content to let it all pass me by and I don't have a TV, which prevents me getting sucked into the whole commercial roundabout, preferring to listen to music, read, go for walks, the movies or socialise with friends. But that apparently makes me a miserable git
WTF
Like you, I am not religious (though I would describe myself as a sympathetic Buddhist), and despite my parents giving me a wonderful and 'magical' Christmas experience as a child, these days, as a somewhat cynical adult, I detest and loath how Christmas has become debased by commercialism and false bonhomie and increasingly removed from the true message of Christmas.
In the past, I have actively sought to spend Christmas away in a non-Christian country, but it is not an easily obtainable desire.
Not my favorite time of year for family reasons but I still try and be as happy as I can for everyone's sake, and I think its right to try. It is imprtant to many folk still, and my wife loved it. Its nice seeing the grandkids happy too. My son loves it too and Ive just purchased him a new tree.
