Well I'm not a boring old man but I am sure some 'modern' Mercs are ok .. actually Colin is thinking of a Merc estate.. maybe an E Class 7G-Tronic diesel.. when he comes to sell the Land Cruiser.. and I'm sure it will be lovely

Indeed not, which is why I said "most often", not always;)
I just like cars that have a bit of style/sexiness and sportiness to them, which is why I love Alfas, and when it comes to Mercs, the older models you're referring to, regardless of how well they were built, IMO, were no lookers. Of course for some, that wouldn't have been important:)
A 1990s C-Class Merc:

Boxy, plain, soulless and rather 'conservative' looking (albeit very well built). No-one under 60, still in possession of a pulse, would drive one:D
Mid-2000s Merc C-Class:

Sleeker, sportier, much more stylish, and generally driven by people who aren't 'dead' yet!:eyebrows:

Rounded, bulbous, and 'American-like' in the wrong way. Just a bulky, blingy big bus! :spew::nono:
Clearly styled by some clueless old fart, trying to make it look 'cool' and more appealing to younger drivers (to challenge its main competitor, the 3-Series Beemer), and ended up creating something about as 'cool' as Ann Widdecombe.
Marco.
I feel I should speak up for boring old men.
I don't drive an old Merc and I can be boring as f**k without breaking a sweat. :)
I drive a Honda Civic and the list of things that have gone wrong on it is shorter than my man-bits on a cold day (actually a lot shorter as my man-bits are pretty impressive all year round).
The drive though could be better, when pressing on the handling is at best "interesting". Still, reliable car, big knob, so shouldn't grumble.
Lol, what are you like!:D:D
Marco.
P.S I've never found you boring.
