As the title says.
We had the Community Shield on Sunday, which means The Premier League starts this weekend :mex:
Can City defend the title for a 3rd consecutive season?
Can Liverpool kill the monkey on their back? It'll be 30 years if they don't do it this season :eyebrows:
Come on the 'Pool!:clap::ner:
;)
Marco.
Top 6 predictions for the EPL and SPL?
Let's have 'em, chaps.... :)
Marco.
What the hell
Rangers, Celtic, Aberdeen, Hibs, Hearts, Killie, Motherwell
Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd, Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea
Wishful yes, but you never know, hopefully your team get a good result tonight Marco
Cheers, mate. Got a 1-1 draw, with a vital away goal from Forrest! Good result, but by all accounts we were lucky, although Edouard could've sneaked it for us late on. Need to watch the match later on Celtic TV, to analyse it for myself.
The tie is still wide open, although with an away goal and home advantage now, we've given ourselves a decent chance of progressing to meet Slavia Prague in the play-offs.
I see that Tierney's now off to Arsenal in a £25m deal, providing he can agree personal terms and pass a medical, which seems a formality. Not bad for an academy player! Now we'll see how wisely that money is spent.....
Marco.
Decent result away from home, yeah looks KT is away, more money to spend but not much time
Well the mighty Canaries will upset the apple cart at the Premiership season opener on Friday evening against Liverpool, you mark my words! (yes, I have had a drink! and been sniffing the Tipex!) Joking aside, I just want to see Norwich avoid the dubious record of being the Premier League's most relegated team - which we will claim (5) if we don't survive 2019/20. Personally I'm optimistic (possibly deluded...) - we were outstanding last year against all expectations and I think we will fare well against the lesser sides. Football is becoming an increasingly athletic sport and I think having youth and unity on your side is pivotal. On The Ball, City!
Good luck, mate - although not against Liverpool!;)
That said, I shall be following the progress of the Canaries with interest:)
Marco.
Celtic did well tonight - and 7-0 on Saturday was pretty emphatic! Love to see any UK team do well in Europe - so good luck to all.
Good result tonight apart from the 2 sloppy goals we gave away
Been catching up on footy and a good away advantage tonight. Scoring 4away is good.
As to Tierney going, well he hardly played last year so it's just a big gain financially to celtic.
Just watched the highlights of the Rangers game. 6 good goals tbf. Should be careful at ibrox in return as they are a pretty decent team with pace and ability but no reason not to progress.
Aribo and Morelos both took theirs very well. Thought the big danish striker looked a player. reminded me of Kluivert
we basically played 424 high block n run. wont be able to do that at home tho
Glad to see you're back posting here, mate....
Indeed (nor this season, and we're currently unbeaten) - and *that* is the key point.
We can clearly win (or not lose) games without him. Plus, without spending a further penny, Boli, in time, looks like he could replace Tierney. He just needs to improve on the defensive side of his game, but as far as bombing down the wing and pinging crosses into the box, he's already there.
So, the £25m transfer fee for Tierney, if it doesn't go straight into PL's [or realistically DD's] 'back pocket', is royal-icing on the cake, which will simply make Celtic even stronger. Then there's the possibility of a further £25m windfall, if we reach the group stages of the CL... A scary thought for the rest of the SPL:eek:
I can see us running over the top of a few teams this year, not just St Johnstone!;)
Marco.
Nice one - I'd forgotten about that game. Must've have been entertaining to watch!
Long may both of our teams do well in Europe, as we need to raise the co-efficient, so that the SPL champions can play one less qualifying round for the CL, and if the results keep on being good, perhaps make automatic qualification, like those lucky bastards down south, many of whom are 'champions' of fuck all!;)
Marco.
Indeed - but that's the problem when the game these days completely revolves around MONEY!
Marco.
There's some good evidence now that Rangers are better at killing off teams, and also as seen on Sunday at Kille, digging deep to win late on at difficult away grounds, which will mean they'll earn more points than last season and make the challenge for the league title closer!
All good, as far as I'm concerned, simply because if Celtic do win the league (and secure nine-in-a-row), it's better to do it against a strong Rangers team, than a poor one....
I see that BR failed in a late £20m bid for Callum McGregor: https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/spo...llum-mcgregor/
Just how much is the current Celtic team worth?
Marco.
I see we have signed young Man C player Brandon Barker on a 3 year contract. I remember him at Hibs when on loan and being extremely speedy. an interesting addition.. how many wingers do we have now :D

Well not the start the Canaries wanted!
Who were they playing, mate?
Marco.
Liverpool - Premier League opener at Anfield - expecting a drubbing but not 3-0 after 30 minutes! To be fair, we're playing well...
I'd have taken 4-0 at full time. Half time, ouch! To be fair, Liverpool are just a different class. Their value £976.28m. Norwich £83.12m. I don't expect us to beat Liverpool, Man City, Tottenham etc - but I think we have a fair chance against the bottom third, and ambitions this year just have to be to survive, which is going to be a huge challenge in itself such is the gulf.
Well the second half we did much better - no more goals conceded and we got one back - 4-1 against the European Champions at Anfield is no disgrace and I am super proud of the team. Super proud. Bring on Newcastle next. :)
Ah, didn't expect that to be happening midweek. Is that normal? I thought the first league fixtures always kicked off on a Saturday? That's what happens in Scotland.
Anyway, not to worry - you won the second half! And your season will be defined by games against other teams than Liverpool:)
Marco.
Dunno, thought it was usually Saturday but who knows with Sky!
LFC beat West Ham 4-0 in last season's opener at Anfield, and Barcelona 4-0 in May, so we did better than both of them! Think they also beat Arsenal 5-0 last season, so not going to panic after one game, and Anfield is a fortress! Best unbeaten home run anywhere I believe across all the top leagues.
So the traditional kick-off time for a new season, unfurling of league flags, etc (3pm on a Saturday), is something else that's been spoiled by the money men!
And normally such games aren't televised live... Does anyone know how long that's been happening in England? As far as I was aware, their league games kicked off the weekend after the Scottish ones, so something has changed?
Anyway, I certainly wouldn't worry about losing to Liverpool, as I suspect that most teams will suffer a similar fate this season. I'll be looking forward to your games against Leicester - and hoping you can get one over BR!;)
Marco.
City will be unfurling :eyebrows:
Yeah I know... But at one time (perhaps even as early as last season?) the unfurling of flags and league kick-off fixtures in England were played on a Saturday afternoon (the weekend after the games in Scotland).
Different after that during the season, when they can be played anytime, just like in Scotland, but in Scotland the opening day of the season is always 3pm on a Saturday afternoon - and none of the games are shown live by Sky or anyone else.
Seems bizarre to me that Liverpool (and Norwich) kicked off their season on a Friday evening, in a live televised game, which is why it caught me unawares... Hey ho.
Marco.
Indeed. Plus, for me, it spoils the occasion kicking off your league campaign on a Friday night.
Anyway, we've got a hard game away to Motherwell today, at a 12 noon kickoff (again because of Sky), when the players only got back from Romania, after playing a very demanding game there, at 4.30pm on Thursday!
You guys have got Hibs at home on Sunday - that could be an interesting one... However, I'd expect you to win, as indeed you will most games this season at Ibrox.
Marco.
Well didnt play well last week, although Livy are a tough nut on their plastic pitch(which really shouldn't be allowed in the high end professional game). Celtic should have too much for them, even if their defence is a "work in progress":eyebrows: Dont expect it to be as easy as St's tho. They have been awful preseason and their manager may be first sacked if it continues.
Hibs have been , like killy a bogey team for us so a win; any win wil be a big boost
Livy? It's Motherwell we're playing, daftee!:D
Marco.
Ah I missed that, just read it as you talking about Livy. No idea who Motherwell played last week, as out with of Celtic and Rangers, I pay little attention to what the other teams are doing, other than when we're playing them.
Marco.
