Once a year I play Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys and Astral Weeks by Van Morrison (I probably didn't need to name the artists).
They regularly appear in the Greatest Of All Time album lists and it's always frustrated me that I didn't get anything out of either of them.
To be clear, I've never found a classical music piece that's really moved me, but I can absolutely understand why some will claim Mozart or Beethoven etc to be genius and I wouldn't argue the brilliance of numerous artisits that I wouldn't actually enjoy listening to myself, but these two albums ? Worse than "meh".
Last night though, I dug out Astral Weeks and it BLEW ME AWAY ! I've had it in twice since and I'm loving it.
I've upgraded the hifi considerably in the last few months with the savings lockdown's enforced, but I can't believe that an improved sound quality would make a "bad" album sound "good".
How did this happen ? What did I miss ? Some songs or albums are definitely growers, but I've been trying with these two for over twenty years.
Wierd.
ps, Pet Sounds still stinks. No disrespect........
