Have you considered the spark supresser
Prob. one of the wires on the motor has come loose.
Does the motor spin freely by hand?
Can you get to the wires to see?

Hi
An update- the idler wheel now spins when the unit is turned on and lifted onto its front side. It appears the idler wheel is rubbing against something metallic- I can hear this when I spin it manually in normal position. Any thoughts? Still waiting to hear from Ray who carried out the work :-(
Good point the idler wheel and its assembly may be stuck. Your probably getting power if the strobe light is working, but the 401 wouldn't work if the spark supressor was duff.
Ok, if your hearing a metallic sound, it could be the eddy current break which is catching. This needs to be specifically setup with a very limited tolerance, could be the break is catching.
How can I check that Andrew?
