In these 'X Factor' times there's an increasing tendency for people to release second rate clones of classic tracks.
However there are a few people who manage to make something new and interesting from the original, which for me is the only point in doing a cover.
Let me start on a light hearted note with Señor Coconut and his Orchestra performing their re-interpretation of SMOKE ON THE WATER
I saw them play this at a festival and was nearly physically sick with laughter...

Stick around till about 7 minutes in, where the guitar solo part is played by the horn section.

I think I've only ever bought three female artists albums, this was the first after hearing this cover.
Most of these, especially the scissors sister one are akin to painting a moustache on the Mona Lisa, funny but ultimately defacing art...:(
